Has anyone experienced heart palpitations, skipped beats, etc. from zithromax?

I've been reading new warnings about it.

I took 2 days of a z-pack a few weeks ago for a tonsil infection. I was getting weird palps, so doc switched me to Amoxicillin.

Ever since, I am still getting weird beats.

I have an appointment next week about this, but really scared that the drug could have caused a permanent heart issue!

Any experiences with this?

Yes, it affects the heart. I don't know about permanently though.

DEFINITELY get some CoQ10 and some GOOD magnesium into your body ASAP!

I take Mag-Tab SR 2x daily, so I guess that's good. I might have some CoQ10 in the house as well.

Really angry because I had no idea about these new warnings at the time they were prescribed by the urgent care doctor.

I'm afraid to even take a brisk walk for fear of what might happen.

Hows the ticker?

If you have lyme, that alone can cause heart palpitations. Then add in herx from zithromax, and it gets worse, leaving out side effects.

Magtab is not a very strong Mg, it is just longer lasting than the others. I suggest you get some magnesium malate or another one that works better than the standard drugstore Mg oxide. And then take some of that in between magtab doses. If you overdo it, you will get loose stools and can just back off some. It is not hard to tell when you got too much and no harm will come of it.

I agree on the CoQ10.

Hi Blue and Poppy -

Had primary care visit yesterday. EKG was normal, but nurse said she heard missing beats when taking my pulse.

Seeing a cardiologist next week.

I had 3 glorious days of no palps (not that I felt anyway).

Then, yesterday I started feeling them late afternoon.

Can't help but wonder if my nerves from a hectic morning with 2 doc appointments stirred anything up.

I was starting to get hopeful that it was all passing....then came back yesterday.

The doc said it would be rare to have this from the drug.....and even if I did, it should have stopped when the drug left my system.

He sent me for blood work, urinalysis, etc.

I guess we'll see. [Frown]

So now I might have a UTI. The doc prescribed Bactrim.

Does anyone know if this is safe to take if I'm experiencing heart palps off and on?

I don't think it's one of the drugs that causes that issue, and I'm sure my doc wouldn't give it to me knowing my situation.

Just feeling anxious about all this.

Cardiologist isn't until next week.

Weird but the word I got back about my urine sample is that it showed I "might" have a UTI.

Might? I thought you either have one or you don't?

I would hate to take meds if not needed.

I had a kidney ultrasound today, so I'm guessing that would show something if it was off?

Ugh....what am I supposed to do with a "might?"

You SHOULD be OK with the Bactrim. Just keep a watch on it.

Keep us posted on what you find out from the cardiologist.

MIGHT??? I wouldn't take abx for it unless they are sure .. but that is just me.

Hi Lymetoo,

Kidney ultrasound came back normal....so that's good!

Asked the nurse who called to tell me about my results about the possible UTI.

She said that because I have flank discomfort, that could be a symptom. In addition to some white blood cells in urine.

I had a UTI about 20 years ago, and I had symptoms like urgency, etc. None of that now.

I started taking a strong cranberry supplement last night and feel icky today.

Wonder if cranberry supplements can cause a herx?
