One day , 4 months ago , I came home from my daily 3 mile walk with what felt like a shin splint . This was just before Xmas & as it was a busy time of the year , I did not seek medical advice right away but did stop walking for exercise as I read that shin splints required rest . A month later it was worse & so I went to an orthopedic doctor who told me to rest it , do some simple stretches , ice it & take advil & in 4 weeks it should be better.
4 weeks later , I went back as nothing had improved & had an MRI done which showed edema , a tear in a tendon & almost no cartilage left in the middle of the ankle & tendonitis .
Went home with a boot & the same instructions to rest , ice etc .
Still no better 4 weeks later I went to a second orthopedic doctor who concurred with the first doctor as to treatment protocol and also mentioned CRPS . It has become stiff from no use ... I lie around most of the day since walking is painful . I get tingling neuropathy like pain shooting up the injured leg as well as the uninjured one & swelling continues along with alternating cold & warm skin . I also have developed hot flashes both day & night & I am a year beyond menopause & cessation of those hot flashes .
I wonder if now that I have gotten my lyme under control whether babesia ( which was originally suspected but not confirmed ) may be showing itself & / or a side effect of the lyme in the form of arthritis may be the culprits ? . Anyone else have a similar experience ?
