I do glutathione pushes daily. I forgot to do it yesterday and had more energy and didn't feel nearly as sick as usual. After I did my glutathione push this morning, I noticed I felt worse.

Is it possible to have a herx-like reaction or feel sicker from glutathione since it is getting the toxins out?

Ive noticed this before. Ive heard it can make you detox too fast. Usually if it makes me feel bad I just take a break for a few days. Not sure why it happens but breaks help.

"Glutathione cause herx?"

Yes.

Glutathione degrades biofilms, as does NAC, its precursor. When you dissolve biofilm, you release the pathogens harbored in the biofilm. That at least is one of the reasons people feel worse after glutathione or NAC... you are in effect increasing your pathogen load. This would create a die-off (and herx) if you have sufficient anti-microbials on-board, or if your body is strong enough to kill the pathogens released.

I got clinically worse with glutathione because of this. I was not on sufficient anti-microbials or ABX to kill what was being released. Now I take a low dose of NAC and I can feel it doing it's work, but it is helping since I have plenty of fire-power on board.

Are you doing a gram a day?
That seems like an awful lot - at least to me.
See how you do by doing it less frequently maybe?

Hi me...

I thought you might want to read this article about the possible side effects of high-dose/long term glutathione supplementation.

It may help explain why you are feeling better when taking a break from it.

One concern is that you may stop producing your own natural intracellular glutathione as a result.

Another concern is the production of glutamate (an excitotoxin with neurological implications) as a result of the breakdown of glutathione:

I couldn't tolerate glutathione. Some people can't. I can't recall the details sorry - but I think it has to do with genetic profiles or sulphur toxicity.
