Hi guys so I'm currently taking Rifabutin every other day, Doxy every day and Zith three days a week.

I read that Rifabutin *can* lower serum levels of Doxy? What does that mean? Are the odds low, or likely? I know that Rifabutin is similar to Rifampin which interacts with many drugs like Doxy to reduce their serum levels, but Rifabutin is supposed to not activate those metabolic liver enzymes nearly as much as Rifampin does?

So should I be concerned that the Doxy I'm on will be significantly reduced while also on Rifabutin? Thanks!

No, rifabutin is a different drug, brand name is Mycobutin.

Rifabutin and rifampin are related, so if that's true of rifampin, it's likely true of Rifabutin (although I haven't checked). It's good you posted this, because I need a new protocol, need to take doxy, and

felt that I should include Rifabutin. But I didn't remember that. Have to check.

YOur doctor may feel that the doxy dosage is high enough so that's ok. But it would be good to check. Plus, in Dr. B's Guidelines (in the sticky at the top) say that the doctors should

check the blood levels of the doxy. I've never had anyone do that, but . . .

PS Now that I remember, Rifabutin interferes with fewer meds than Rifampin, but still quite a few. But I still don't remember about doxy.
