Hi All-

My neighbor's 14-year-old child has severe and I mean SEVERE black circles under her eyes, weakness, some neurological dysfunction, and pain around her chest cavity, and a low grade fever. No doctor can figure out what's wrong with her. I am well-versed in tickborne-illness and I don't believe it's that.

Any ideas? Does anyone know of a great pediatric diagnostician? Her parents are terrified.

Hi Bugg,

Have they ruled out neuroblastoma?

I feel so bad for this young teen and her family.

I will pray for them.

Take care.

Heavy metal poisoning considered?

With low-grade fever could be any number or combination of chronic stealth infections such as Cpn, Mycoplasma, etc.

They have ruled out neuroblastoma although it certainly does fit the symptom profile doesn't it.

Anyone know of a good diagnostic place besides Mayo Clinic?

Celiac should be seriously considered (with a genetic blood test, not just stomach biopsy) . . .

food allergy?

Mold?

Chemicals in the home - in the fabrics, in the furniture . . . at school?

Porphyria?

It sounds like she's not getting enough air. They need to get her to a good functional medicine doc.

Hey Bugg,

Sorry to see this happening. It could be many things, sorry to say. But...

Being focused on TBD's most of the time, while reading your post I immediately saw Bartonella.

1. Raccoon eyes

2. Southeast USA

3. Neuro dysfunction

4. Low grade fever

5. Pain around chest area

ALL of these are some of the Bartonella signs and symptoms. Maybe do a quick review of the article here (symptoms listed).

https://sites.google.com/site/marylandlyme/tick-borne-diseases/bartonella

Of course, again, it could be many things, but this is what I saw when reviewing your post.

I am not allowed to post the link here to the Lyme Doc site, but if you go to www.MarylandLyme.org and look under doctor referral it is possible you'll find a family practitioner treating Lyme in at least one State in the southeast.

The reason I suggest a Lyme doc is because generally they care when so many others don't. And they are doctors first, Lyme second, they are open to new ideas and are generally very good diagnosticians be it Lyme related or not.

Second, you can rule out TBD's that no one else would bother doing right from the get-go.

Hoping the child and her family get the help needed. Thank you for helping make that possible.

Mold?

Dark circles under eyes could be allergic shiners - allergic to mold. And mold can do the other things too, I think. I'm sure you could google for list of mold symptoms. Perhaps find it here:

www.survivingmold.com

Kind of makes sense if the doctors have ruled out their usual medical diagnoses. I could see most docs missing mold.
