I'm developing an interesting pattern where the day after I take doxycyline and zithromax I wake up with a horrible migraine that lasts mostly all day. My strategy so far has been AK gold, magnesium, b1, 2 aspirin, progesterone and flexeril.
It seems to take the edge off but basically I just have to wait until it's done with me.
Today I did an ice pack over my eyes and at the back of my neck and that helped ALOT.
Question -- is there any way to head this thing off before it starts?

My daughter says turmeric tea (2 tsp) helps her quite a bit. It's a powerful anti inflammatory. The capsules from the health food stores may work even better.

At the first inkling of a migraine that responds to ice packs, I would have on hand, homeopathic Bryonia 30c (that is the highest potency they sell in stores) and I would pop a pellet in my mouth to see if I could head it off.
I would dose every 15 minutes for an hour. If I did not see any change then it is not the right remedy. There are other remedies for "better for holding ice packs on the head" but that one is the most used.
I would dose as needed. My body would let me know when to redose. I would spread out doses as I improved. More is not better in homeopathy. If I did not need to redose then I would not take anymore.
If I take a remedy and hate it, I can knock it out with strong mint. I use Doterra Peppermint on my tongue (Careful as that is a hot oil. Not everyone might be able to use peppermint oil) or I chew some Altoids or Fisherman Friend Mints and drink some water.
I would keep my remedy away from my cell phone as the EMF ruins the remedy. I also would avoid icy/hot creams like tiger balm as that also knocks out the remedy and if it was working then I would not want to antidote it.

More probiotics or s.boullardi might help if it's a yeast issue. For me it's a detox issue. The only thing that helps me is coffee enemas.

Hi Jordana- I can empathize. Sorry you are going through this. I found my best defense is a strong offense. I haven't had Lyme migraines in a long time but got one yesterday after having a major flare with diflucan. Have now stopped that per doc.
I had some leftover natural anti inflams I used to take daily and thought what the heck - nothing else worked- and they did. In my mix I take 4 wobenzym, 1 400 mg samee, 1 1300 mg primrose oil, 1 lumbrkinase- nutricology I believe, 1 curcumin, and I'll post if there is anything else in there. Well, when I first got sick, I took this stuff without fail 2x per day- 1 hr. before food and during that time, I never got sinus infections or headaches. Well- now, I've been dealing with both since a relapse in January. Taking this stuff daily is a much cheaper alternative than bringing in docs and meds. Years ago prior to lyme- I was on vioxx after breaking my foot until my doc said- sorry- elevated liver enzymes - you must stop. Somehow, I came across a prevention article that said samee and primrose oil was as effective as vooxx. Could not have been more timely. Hope it helps you!

I can't remember why I tried this, but recently for migraines I've been gulping down three turmeric capsules (soon I'm going to get plain old powder - why pay for the packaging!) and a capsule of NAC.
(I used to take triptan medications for migraines, and they never really worked well - and last year I started to get horrific rebound migraines 24 hours after taking the triptan, so I didn't understand the point. Since then I just suffer and take handfuls of random things to try when I have a headache).
I think mine are detox, so this helps clear everything out, and the turmeric helps with pain a little. I've tried glutathione and it just makes the headache worse, but NAC (which our bodies turn into glutathione, eventually I think), works for me,
Also, although I don't always believe in homeopathy because scientifically it doesn't make sense to me, I still often try homeopathic remedies for migraines, and they seem to work. Source Naturals Migraine Blocker works - admittedly, for like half an hour, but you can take heaps of it safely.
I also once downed a handful of chlorella, and it seemed to help - could have been the trace minerals in the algae, or the detoxing action.
If the migraines I get aren't detox-related, they are also caused by salt imbalance and dehydration. If it's turned full-blown migraine, adding those things back doesn't really help, but sometimes at the first hint of a headache taking some lightly salted water helps. But, only if that's one of your migraine causes! Otherwise, it probably won't help.
At one point, a neurologist told me that the only way to undo the brain biochemistry changes during a migraine is to sleep. So if you can, nap or go to sleep early to try and cut off pain continuing through a second (or in my case, six!) days.
I hope you can find something that works for you.

OK. Got some enzymes from amazon today; I've got SAM-E and turmeric which I stopped taking --can't remember why now, something about the liver treating the black pepper as a toxin -whatever.
I also have a detox bath and a pitcher of green coffee cued up here.
I actually did try to sleep through this one but it didn't work, I just had to deal with it when I woke up. I should have gotten up, tried to manage it and THEN gone back to bed.

The basis of homeopathy can be found in the science of particle physics.
It is a fantastic tool to have in the tool chest. Non- toxic and not expensive and they last forever if they are not exposed to EMF and strong odors like camphor oil.
If I get the right remedy, in an acute symptom picture like this, I expect to see some positive change within 15-30 minutes, even if it is small it means my case is going in the right direction and if I dose accordingly it will go away. If I find a remedy works but wears off too quick then I needs to go up in potency strength.
If the sugar pellets are too nauseating I spit them out. The remedy is on the outside of the pellet.
Also if I take a remedy and hate it, I can knock it out with strong mint. I use Doterra Peppermint on my tongue (Careful as that is a hot oil. Not everyone might be able to use peppermint oil) or I chew some Altoids or Fisherman Friend Mints and drink some water.
Of course...if there is a trigger like being dehydrated, as is mentioned above, then I remember to drink water or if it triggered by MSG then I stop eating MSG, etc.

I use Topamax as my preventative and Imitrex as my as rescue med to treat/ stop the migraines. This helped greatly.
Then I started Alinia for Babesia (in combo with Malarone). The Alinia was amazing! It wipes out my headaches, totally prevents them!
We do have to fight insurance to cover it as it is super expensive. But it is so worth it!

Hey Jordana- let me know how the natural anti inflams work for you. They are saving me right now. Detox is super important too- but I'd say between the two you should be feeling much better! Fingers crossed! Posted by Jordana (Member # 45305) on :
I had a GREAT DAY today; loaded turmeric and SAM-E last night before I went to sleep. So this was detox, CE, epsom bath, inflams and voila.
We're gettin there.
Boy, I have got to treat babesia straight on and stop swiping at it from the side with zith and doxy. I am very very afraid of that herx though.

"Did you know that gravity can threaten the health of your brain? When you are standing, the brain is above the heart, and blood pumped to the head and brain must have extra pressure to oppose the downward pull of gravity. Meanwhile, blood returning from the head is assisted by the force of gravity.
But, what happens when your head gets too much pressure from lying flat – in your bed – at night? According to Sydney Ross Singer, “lying flat in bed can cause the brain to get pressurized and congested with stagnant fluid, reducing the oxygen and sugar availability for brain cells and increasing metabolic waste products.”
“The brain desperately needs proper circulation or its cells can die. As a first defense, your brain wakes you up so you can stop lying down. However, most people try going back to sleep, so the pressure and stagnation continue.”
“The brain has another mechanism to save itself. Blood vessels that supply the head and brain open widely, temporarily increasing the pressure to essentially flush the brain with fresh fluid. This “brain flush” is painful and is experienced as a migraine headache. It happens in the morning after a nighttime of brain congestion caused by lying too flat.”
The good news is that scientific research suggests that over 70 percent of migraines can be eliminated by simply elevating the head of your bed! "

not sure this will be of any help, but I found out I can't tollerate glutamate foods well and they cause great head pain so cutting them out has helped me a lot. it is worth a shot. head pain is terrible!

Jordana- I'm so happy they have helped you! I don't think I'll be without them from here on out! Progress is always good! When I was on mepron\malerone etc for babesia I don't remember the herxes being that bad. I just did what my doc. - Dr. H told me to do. Hang in there!
