Has anyone else had luck like me with taking Claratin to reduce Lyme symptoms? I have had HORRIFIC stiff neck and migraines so that I couldn't go to work.
I took one pill two days in a row and my symptoms are 90% gone.

Nope. I still take one Claritin a day to help with allergies and mast cell activation disorder.
Based on the test tube trials, I think someone has to take about 40 pills a day for it to work ( if I remember correctly), but that is not possible without ruining one's health more.
Have you done anything else? Even short rounds of antibiotics?

I hadn't heard of this (although there was a study where the active ingredient in Claratin produced positive results in some research - this was maybe a year ago and the concentration of the ingredient was much higher than a Claratin dose).
If this is working for you I wouldn't stop taking it.

Hmmm. I didn't realize that Claritin helped with mast cell activation disorder. I highly suspect I have that, or at least a variant of it. I may go back on claritin ... I usually just take it during allergy season.

I take Claritin when needed to calm down mast cells. Sure helps.
minimonkey ... if you take it daily, they say there will be a rebound effect when coming off of it...so I take very little of it.

Yes, I did 30 days but it came back. The difference is incredible. I couldn't work from the pain and now it's like I'm brand new.
It's freaky. Why would it work so well? It's an antihistimine. What could be going on besides it killing the lyme?

Mast cell activation disorder? Zyrtec also helps with mast cell activation disorder bc it works on different histaminea than Claritin.

Healeddalyme, When did you first hear that Claritin could potentially help Lyme and when did you start taking it to specifically help Lyme?

- It's not a safe assumption to think that Claritin kills borrelia. That's a premature and potentially dangerous conclusion to one limited study in 2015 at Stanford.
And there are dangers to taking it chronically.
Any antihistamine can usually help someone feel a bit better for various reasons but there are risks to most antihistamines long term or at higher doses.
Yet, something like Turmeric would be a far safer and more effective help for symptom relief of inflammation that causes pain. -

Healed .. Many with lyme ALSO have mast cell activation disorder. You might want to consider that as a possibility.
I really do not believe that Claritin has any action on borrelia itself.

I think you may be right about the Mast Cell Activation Disorder. I had a diagnosis of CDiff in July.

Back to this. Claritin works and confirms to me exactly what the study says. And by the way, indeed the study does say it kills persister bacteria by preventing manganese from entering. It is not just a symptoms thing. The problem is of course that you can't really take a large enough dose so I take a moderate dose and have removed almost all manganese from my diet. The combination of these 2 has helped me push to a higher level.
