Hi all!

I wanted to first say thank you again to every one that had replied on my first post yesterday. I am overwhelmed, touched and very relieved to have found such a wonderful group.

As I'm sure everyone has experienced the infamous herx, I for one was by no means prepared for what was in store when I began treatment.

I am lucky to have the support of my close family and friends in my journey. My mother, who is my biggest cheer leader, is on a never ending quest to help me survive the herx to make it through whatever obstacle may present itself each and every day. She has created for me, what we affectionately refer to as my "herx kit".

My kit is just a small bag of supplies that I can keep in my purse, or throw into my school bag to keep me goin when the herx gets rough.

It has taken me some time to find what exactly works the best for me, the things I need most frequently, and I'm constantly switching things out and adding new things.

Some of the things in my herx kit include peppermints to sooth my upset tummy, peppermint oil as well for the nausea (not to drink, just to smell) and rub on sore joints, ibuprofen, athletic tape for those really achy days and some other bit and bobbles to help with the aches and over all discomfort.

I know that everyone experiences the herx differently, so everyone's kit will vary. And as a disclaimer, I am not recommending any of the things in my herx kit by any means as medical advice. Every one is different and if you are curious about trying anything, please speak with your Dr first.

I'm just curious if any one else has a herx kit? What are some things in your herx kit that you find help you? Do you have a cute bag that you keep your supplies in? (my herx kit is a purple bag with pink polka dots)

Even if you don't have a herx kit, is there any neat little things you've found that help you get through a tough day be it an essential oil, a tea, maybe a qoute or a song?

Little things like my herx kit have given me a sort of safety blanket and sense of comfort on those really bad days I know I can't slow down.

As always, I hope your all having a wonderful day!!!

Cheers

See the caution here about ibuprofen (it can be hard on kidneys and constrict blood vessels and make inflammation worse).

To smell peppermint oil is find. To ingest: Be sure the peppermint is in gelcap / enteric coated capsules. It can be so helpful in the gelcaps.

Ginger capsules also helpful to reduce pain / inflammation.

For herxes, drink lots of water all day long. Drink continuously.

Cut up lemons and squeeze them into the water. Make that your only drink while herxing. Try to eat up to 4 lemons per day.

People are amazed at how much this helps. The water flushes out the body and the lemon is God's natural cleanser. Those are the words of my lyme doc. It worked for me!

Also, have on hand some Alka Seltzer Gold (no aluminum). Some drug stores carry it. You can take that with lemon 3-4 times per day if you need more help with a herx.

Here are some tips from Dr. H:

For Herxheimer reactions: 2 Alka-Selzer Gold (no aluminum) in 8 ounces of water with lemon or lime followed by 6-8 capsules of glutathione or 1500 mg of oral liposomal glutathione.

70% will feel better in hours

On the topic of water: Dilution is the solution to pollution. This suggests that in order to help our bodies detoxify, we must drink more water

AND:

From Dr. H patient, Sept, 2013:

Flare protocol in a nutshell:

Try 1st:

--Burbur, 10 drops every 10 minutes for 2-3 hours or 10 days until flare resolves

--Parsley (same as burbur)

--Lemon/lime in H2O sipped through straw 4x/day

--Alkaseltzer gold OTC or sodium bicarb 4x/day

If above doesn't help, add:

Oral glutathione (Essential Pro) 6-8 caps at once, repeat as needed, up to 3x/day

If no help w/above steps, try:

--Pekana drainage 15 drops of each bottle 3x/day

--Sydetox 15 drops 2x/day

--LDN, as prescribed at bedtime

Thank you Keebler for the information, I hadn't really considered those side effects of ibuprofen.

I do pretty frequently have some kind of ginger in my diet, such as tea, as that too also helps ease my stomach and I had heard that it helps with inflammation as well. I keep ginger tea in my herx kit also.

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to reply and giving me a few helpful tips [Smile]

Hello TF!

Thank you so much for these suggestions, I completely agree that water is an extremely important part of detox and treatment. I already drink a lot of water with lemon because of a small kidney issue I have been dealing with this past year. But most certainly a wonderful suggestion.

I have also heard of the Alka-Selzer gold and its apparently the bees knees for herx. I have been keeping an eye out as Id love to try and add it to the kit.

I'm eager to look into the other things you had suggested, and that hopefully some of the things may work for me.

Thank you again so much for taking the time to reply and make these helpful suggestions.

Mubs,

Glad you are finding replies of help. There is no need to repost the full posts to which you reply, however. If there are a few sections to help in repost, fine, but it's pretty much assumed when you post that you are referencing detail in replies just by how you answer or add whatever.

You would not have to repost any of a reply and we'd all likely know if you refer to any of it.

Hope that helps.

For me, I used (and still use) chlorella in any form.

It's the best binder for lyme and coinfections, in my opinion.

Taking chlorella really changed my life during lyme treatment.

I thought I was sick from lyme, but in fact, I think herxes made me even sicker than infections.

I also added bear garlic tincture, for cleaning the kidneys.

I always took milk thistle for the liver. Most lyme sufferers do.

Simple things like lemon, water, vit C (both away from chlorella though) also help, but they weren't comparable to what chlorella + bear garlic did to me.

I really think that these 2 main binders helped me immensely when lyme was active.

I'm lyme free for more than 7 years (so is my daughter), and we both were swimming in chlorella and bear garlic. I do think they helped us out of lyme immensely.

Also magnesium (I took mag citrate) and Omega 3 clean supplements help with inflammation and cleaning the body.

Sometimes clay or activated charcoal helped, but again, not comparable to how much chlorella helped.

Rubbing any clean oil on the whole body was also helpful. Specially on the lymph nodes. I feel the oils go inside and help toxins out (as many toxins dilute in oil, not in water solutions).

Adding the oils directly on the skin always felt good. I liked jojoba, but I suspect any clean organic oil will also be helpful.

Be sure to always rinse mouth after lemon or lime water. And do not brush for at least a half hour, so the tooth enamel has time to harden back up (the acid in citrus - and other things, too - can soften enamel and you don't want to brush it away).

Hi Brussels!

Thank you so much for taking out the time to make all of these wonderful suggestions!

I'm thrilled to hear that you and your daughter are doing well and have been lyme free for some time, that is extremely encouraging and wonderful to hear!

I am also very interested in the chlorella, I've never heard of that before. I'm most definately going to look into your suggestions and hopefully find some relief =)! Thanks again!

NOT fair, not fair. Our new member Mubs- cute name- knows how to post using quotes from others. I've been here since before LN began and I still don't know how to do that!

[Razz]

Welcome Mubs!

My kit is my freezer. I kinda go down hard- so badly that standing is almost impossible. Having no chef to cook for me and needing to eat- I stock up on instant - as healthy as possible- meals as best I can before the herx is expected.

I also use my bedside as my kit. I try to put no-brain-energy projects close by so I can have something to do while in bed besides moan and groan (from pain and misery- nothing more exciting).

For example- if you see me out and about with freshly painted toenails in all different colors, you can assume I was recently herxing.

Don't know if anything here (link below) would help with your kit, but offering it now because I know a freezer and large bed won't fit in that pretty pink and purple pack of yours.

Hello desertwind,

I've heard of some of these other suggestions but I haven't heard anything about Benadryl. When I think of Benadryl I think of allergies, is there other ways the Benadryl can help with herxing?

Thank you for taking the time to make suggestions!!!

Hello Tincup!

I really love the idea of keeping things next to bed to keep busy in a bad herx. I love the idea of doing nails or something like that: just because you don't feel good doesn't mean you can't look good lol.

I do have some coloring books and stuff like that to keep me busy when I'm stuck in bed.

The idea of keeping easy prep meals on hand is also a great idea! I usually only have little snacks that are easy to grab to hold me over. But it's really a great idea to have actual meals on stand-by for when cooking just isn't in the cards for that day.

Thank you so so much for the links and suggestions. I look forward to checking them out! And thank you for taking the time to share, I really appreciate it!

You are so sweet to respond. Two things I didn't mention before that I should have.

1. Please tell your mother she is an angel for helping you with this situation. I wish everyone was that lucky to have someone who really cares like she does.

2. It is kind of you to offer your suggestions- such as the herx kit. Great idea!

Some things to consider...

Lavender oil (mixed with a base oil if needed) used topically to help reduce pain in joints and muscles.

Tei-Fu oil for severe neuro pain- used topically. REALLY good stuff and you only need a few drops to get relief. More powerful than the lavender and lasts longer.

Glutathione- IV push is good, IV drip ok- transdermal compounded cream really nice (no doc visit and cheaper).

Neuro chiropractor- usually takes insurance. Excellent for instantly clearing up many herx symptoms.

10 lb. bag of potatoes- take them out of bag one at a time. Name each one. Put them back in the bag. Later take then out again to see if you can remember their names. (Then don't cry when eating them.)

Paint by numbers- switch the green and red numbers and see how it turns out.

Old photos- sort, label and put in albums.

Pick a Topic- learn everything you can about a NICE subject you know little to nothing about (examples- how to make butter and cottage cheese, manatees, tallest trees in USA, edible flowers, making moonshine, national parks, history of a local area near you, 55 Chevy).

Rosary beads- self explanatory.

To reduce inflammation- Vit. C, Vit. E, Wobenzyme, Bromelain, quercetin. Works best taking them all together, not just one or two here and there.

That's about all the brain allows this morning. Hope it helps, or at least made you laugh.

Mubs, sorry for late reply.

Some info on chlorella:

https://draxe.com/7-proven-chlorella-benefits-side-effects/

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/02/01/is-this-one-of-natures-most-powerful-detoxification-tools.aspx

This 'protocol' is what my practitioners used with daughter and me:
http://customers.hbci.com/~wenonah/new/9steps.htm

It's based on dr. K's ideas. He said there are HUNDREDS of papers about chlorella and its benefits.

As for cilantro tincture, we kept it in smaller doses and only sporadically. Cilantro pulls out heavy metals intracellular, not a good idea as a 'detox starting kit'.

It's better to use chlorella, that only binds toxins in the matrix (extracellular) and in the organs (gut, liver, gall bladder, stomach...) first.

After months of use, you'll get a cleaner body and then you could start to attack it intracellular too.

We did though consume cilantro as food (spice). It's less strong than tincture and we love the taste of it. I also added cilantro seeds to our diets (I still use it). It is also less strong than tincture.

If you see what chlorella does as an algae, it's quite impressive. It doesn't do one thing only, as it is pure nutrition too. I love it.

I think chlorella was responsible for more than 50% of my healing from lyme. Without it, I wonder how long it would have taken us to get off lyme and toxicity that comes together.

I hope you find detox products that fit your body. Not everyone is made equal, and each herx is a bit different...

Chlorella usually worked for the majority of herxes, during lyme. Sometimes, it was not enough, and I had to add other things, like MSM.

Hi Tincup!

I can't tell you how much I appreciated this post. It was both hysterical and informative.

Im very interested to try some of the things you suggested. I dont how ever think i can handle the 10 pound bag of potatoes: I get attached very easily, once I name them Ill have to keep them. I wouldnt be able to live with myself if i ate them.

Some of these things Im hoping i can add to the kit, thanks again for taking the time and giving me (and Mom) a good laugh.

Hope your having a great day!

QUINIA FLAKES are important to have on hand. Just add hot water in a deep wide mug, cover with a saucer and in a few minutes there is a mush that can work for food. Any culinary herbs can be added.

Mubs said... "I dont how ever think i can handle the 10 pound bag of potatoes: I get attached very easily, once I name them Ill have to keep them. I wouldnt be able to live with myself if i ate them."

[lol]

HA! I know what you mean. Once when I was having a bad herxing day I decided to not eat the sweet potatoe that was suppose too be for supper.

Instead I let it live, put it in a jar of water, and let it grow.

It about covered all the kitchen windows and wall with its beautiful vine. At night when no one was around sometimes it would talk to me and once it even thanked me for not eating it.

BTW- you might want to add a "psychiatrist" to your herx bag. As you can tell by this post- you never know when you might need one.

[Big Grin]

Posted by Mubs (Member # 48872) on :

Tincup,

I think I'm gonna need a bigger bag... I usually just keep essential oils and peppermints in my kit and now I need to consider a freezer and psychiatric staff. Forget the bag, I think I just need a van!

Are you and the potato still in touch? It sounds like such a kind and gentle soul.

Thank you so so much for your posts, it gives me a good laugh on tough days.

Hope your doing well!!!

Posted by Tincup (Member # 5829) on :

HA! You are funny little one.

In that van of yours put a chiropractor too. They come in handy! I keep one in my medicine cabinet. (Only cause I couldn't find one crazy enough to marry me.)

You said.. "Are you and the potato still in touch?"

[lol]

She lived a long time, a happy life, but as things go she finally went to sweet potatoe heaven. I do miss her.

BUT- and you will not believe this...

I was just shopping yesterday and one of the things on my diet is sweet potatoes. One of the ONLY things it seems!

Anyhow, thought of you and I bought 2 sweet potatoes, one to eat and one to grow. I know you are the one that made me do it too!

Had you not made me tell you about my last sweet potatoe plant, surely I'd have only bought one to eat.

Of course, I didn't explain my sweet potatoe plans to the clerk ringing up my groceries. Just let it slide by.

I figured me dancing on the counter top at the time was distracting enough. I was doing a little funky chicken dance followed by the peppermint twist because I remembered my store "card" this time.

Hey! Have to celebrate the little things, ya know.

[Big Grin]

Posted by Mubs (Member # 48872) on :

Tincup,

You know what that means, you have to name the next sweet potato you plant after me sinse I made you think of it lol [Big Grin]

I am however very sorry to hear you lost your sweet potato friend. Loss is always difficult whether people or potato.

Hope your doing well, and I hope the sweet potato that ended up being dinner was delicious!

Keep celebrating the little things, and dance as much and as often as possible!
