My insomnia is getting worse. Does anyone know which bug causes it? I can target it with herbs but I'm having trouble finding out what part of Lyme causes it.

All I can say is my insomnia is horrid without the right abx. Levaquin helps it some, and then amoxil helps it even more. So I guess for me it's a combination of Lyme and Bart maybe...

Thanks. It's hard when you Lyme, Bart and Babs.

Lyme. There are threads about insomnia and what we all try, if you'd like to do a search.

- Liver stress (due to neurotoxicity - excitotoxins) tops the triggers for insomnia as can adrenal stress. Of course, lyme / coinfections create the situation yet - along with direct assertive treatment for infections, two foundations of support to help insomnia are

Tulips insomnia mimics babs. Sweats, headaches air hunger, major fatigue. Below is some info on it. Keep in mind that you don't need to have all the symptoms in this doc's paper to have proto. You might have just a few symptoms. Proto makes the worst insomnia.
Nefferdun posted some good info a few years ago on the difference between babs and proto. It was really good so I saved it on my computer (below).
. . .
You may have insomnia, bladder irritation, irritability, anxiety and twitching and think it is bart. You may have hot flashes, sweating, headaches behind your eyes, body pain, profound fatigue, inability to concentrate and air hunger, diagnosing babesia. However with babesia you would be oversleeping, not insomnia.
However now and then you lose your voice, talking like there is a frog in your throat. You get nasal congestion, perhaps thinking you have developed an allergy. Sometimes you get a stabbing feeling in one tooth like you have a bad cavity but the dentist doesn't find anything. In winter your hands, feet and nose are so cold you just can't keep them warm. You get stabbing or tingling nerve pains in various parts of your body.
. . .
The best way to tell if you have it is to eat a fatty meal and then watch what your body does in next 12 to 24 hours. Even better, go low fat and see how you feel. I felt better in 3 days. For some it takes a few weeks (we're all different).
Artificial sugars, except stevia gives me bad insomnia and nightmares

Thanks guys. With Lyme and Co, there's always something new to learn about.

When I had lyme, babs, and bart, my insomnia was horrible.
When I got to a doctor who treated my lyme the Burrascano way, it was gone in about a month! So wonderful!
He treated me with high-dose amoxicillin and flagyl. (My previous doc used amoxi only and I still had the insomnia problem.)
My Burrascano-type doctor told me that lyme affects the sleep center of the brain. That is how it causes insomnia.
So, once I got rid of the lyme, I also got rid of the insomnia and MANY other things.
Then, he moved on to treat bart and then babs last.

Your adrenals could be off too.

Thanks TF and WP. Your posts give me hope that one day in the future I will be able to go to bed at night and sleep all the way through till morning.

insomnia is the WORST!! I've been told it's from all three by different people. I think all our symptoms overlap.
ugg. Hoping that's one of the next things healed for me.. . and you!

I think so too. I'm so tired of being up most of the night. I have an odd thing that happens. I'm taking herbs and
homeopathics for Borrelia, Bart and Babs and slowly making progress so every now and then, I can lie down at bedtime and
actually sleep till about 3 am but then, the next night, I can't sleep. Then I take liquid Melatonin the next night and I can
sleep half of that night but then it doesn't work for me the next night. Nothing works for me two nights in a row but I'm really grateful for the sleep I do get. It's better than no sleep ever!

I know what you mean. I never know what each night is going to look like. I'm grateful for what sleep I do get.
last year before I was diagnosed I had an episode where I literally didn't sleep for a week and a half. My anxiety SHOT through the roof.
I have NO clue how I was functioning. I ended up in the ER. They gave me an ambien and I still only slept for 3 hrs. with it.
I'm pretty sure sleep is an important part of healing... Posted by Catgirl (Member # 31149) on :
Full moon, parasites cause insomnia as well. It's not just on the full moon. It's the week before and some days after.
