I got bit by a tick on my arm 2-3 weeks ago. Removed it, didn't think much of it. The bite wound festered quite a bit more than usual ones. The bite mark healed after 1-2 weeks but still a small bump, now I have a large red rash/bruise thing around the bump. Does it look like Lyme disease? What is my best method to proceed? I am trying to get in contact with an LLMD in my area.

I would sure have it looked at by an LLMD...There's a great one in MO .. you will have to wait a bit to see him.
Be sure to take pics of this and measure it also. Get a pic of it with your face in the pic and also with a date of a newspaper next to it.
Documentation can save your life.

Take the handout with you to any local doctor and get treated right away. Don't wait for a LLMD appointment and let the organisms spread throughout your body.

So I talked to the LLMD. They said I need to get a referral from my primary care physician. I saw my physician, they looked at it asked a few questions, and wrote me a prescription for doxycycl. Not sure I am confident in that, but I guess that's what I need to do. Physician said it takes a tick stuck in you for over 48 hours to contract Lyme.

There s all kinds of new and current research that disputes this out-dated medical doctor's expertise.
I got my rash on the top of my hand. There s no way I wouldn't have noticed a disgusting fat-ass tick feeding on me.
I believe I got bit while sleeping with my dog in my bed.
Get LLMD asap.
I wish I would have known what my rash meant at the time.
It would have saved me from destroying my life. 4 years worth of pain, loss of family and friends, job, disability, 23 doctors and counting, thousands of dollars of debt.
This is serious stuff !

I am not a doctor, but that looks like a bull's-eye rash to me.
I don't think either docs are LLMDs. Why would a so-called Lyme-literate doctor refer you back to your primary, when he is a specialist? Makes no sense!
You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!
A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.
I was told by one of the top LLMDs that all it takes is 15 MINUTES for Lyme to be passed from a tick, not over 48 hours.
You already have the name of a good LLMD in MO, a top one to boot. Please don't wait another minute and get to him a.s.a.p.! Poster "Bartenderbonnie" hit the nail on the head with her advice and others too.
It took SIX YEARS just to get our son diagnosed properly and he has been ill now for seventeen years. He did not have the classic bull's-eye rash , but an oval red rash on his thigh with many mosquito bites which I found out later was a form of the bull's-eye one.
This terrible disease has taken away so much from him as well as our family. He lost his childhood and teenage years as well as many other things which can never be replaced.
Btw - I know you are new to Lymenet, but please break up your posts into 2-3 sentence paragraphs as there are people on Lymenet who cannot read large blocks of text due to neurological problems from Lyme.

Hey,
Definitely go to the doctor. Make an appointment with a LLMD, but since there might be a long wait list, go to your regular internist now and get antibiotics. Since you've caught this early, God willing you won't have chronic Lyme as long as you get on antibiotics ASAP

She said that I need a referral, I may try calling again

I've never heard of him needing a referral from primary. Something's off with that.
