Hi All,

Looking for your inputs on Atovaquone.

I saw below comments in one of the LLMD blog.

"The worst offenders for C. diff are quinolones such as Levaquin. Drugs of this class can also cause tendon rupture. They penetrate well into the brain but can cause odd brain side effects that are not Herxheimer responses. I recommend avoiding these drugs if possible and using low doses when necessary."

Does Atovaquone also come under quinolones family? If so is it safe to use Atovaquone?
What are the other meds prescribed for treating babesia?

Any suggestions and inputs are appreciated.

Thanks and Regards,

Just type Atovaquone into Google and you will find out that it is the drug Mepron. Mepron is the most common medication used to treat babesiosis.

Read about it in Burrascano, page 24. It is NOT a quinolone, so don't worry.

If you just Google many of the words that you do not understand, you can quickly get the answers you desire--in seconds!

Here is the webpage for Google:

https://www.google.com/

See this page from a lyme book for a short description of meds that treat babesiosis:

http://www.lymebook.com/antibiotic-treatment-for-babesia-bartonella-ehrlichia-co-infections

Keep that page for your future reference.

Notice that Levaquin is a medication used for bartonella. Levaquin is a quinolone. That is the one the doctor is advising people to avoid.

Thank you so much for the info sixgoofykids and TF.

TF,

Thank you very much for the link. It was very helpful.

I have used doxy last year for 1.5 months and Mepron for 10 to 15 days but stopped because of stomach and other issues. Planning to start Mepron again in few weeks.

Thanks and Regards,
