Hey HW!
I mentioned this so people can be aware this may be a problem down the road.
I've known times when only one medication would work to help certain people, and I've watched houses be re-mortgaged in order to purchase a life long supply of a specific medication that was being discontinued.
This who didn't have information in advance were out of luck. That's tragic.
Some other company may start manufacturing it at some point, but often this doesn't happen.
So just be aware this could cause problems at some point.

No, this is only the oral liquid suspension, does not mention the tablets being discontinued. Only Oral liquids.

Note is says "currently".
It is possible they are waiting to run low on the other meds they've already produced and once they get to that point they will also be discontinued. Or maybe not?
Just want folks to be aware this has happened and could happen again.

It's a generic drug so even if GSK discontinues production it's of little consequence. The one I'm taking now is made by Northstar.

That's what we'd hope for, but that isn't always the case.
For example- If Ceftin were discontinued and Northstar was the only company producing the generic, they could jack the price up to $5,000 per pill if they wanted.
Or they could stop making it temporarily, then come back later offering it at much higher prices. To them its a game to increase their profit margins.
With many people having to pay cash for meds, or high deductibles and/or high copays this kind of "trick" can deny them access to the medication short term or long term.
We watched as Doxy (after suddenly becoming "scarce") went from about $22 per month to over $1,100 per month in a very short time period.
Just want everyone to be aware that bad things can pop up now and then and to try to be prepared or at least aware.

Nothing will happen to Cefuroxamine Axetil. Its an ancient antibiotic from the 70s and its produced by many generic companies and countries. There are at least 50. Very few people have been on brand name Ceftin in ages because its so old. Its not going anywhere except for the branded version

That might be a choice for some, however, as I said above, some people can ONLY take one kind of antibiotic because nothing else works or they have problems with other meds for whatever reason.
Just trying to give people this may apply to a head's up. If it doesn't apply, move along, move along. HA!
