Hey,

Which supplements are best for sleep? I need something that will help me fall and stay asleep.

I've built a tolerance to Valerian Root, which had been working really well for me, so I'm looking for something else.

I'm looking for something that doesn't contain amino acids, proteins, or magnesium.

Why not magnesium? That is often very depleted in those with lyme and very helpful to proper muscle relaxation for sleep.

Hmm, I think valerian stopped working for me too. Lately, I like lemon balm and lavendar capsules (one or both together). I try/have tried other things. More info. includes:

My naturopath said calcium gets you to sleep and magnesium helps you stay asleep. I think that worked for me but couldn't confirm right now. For 4-8 months (don't recall) I tested too high in magnesium and didn't use it. Now I do.

I agree w/ Keebler. (Thanks for your posts, BTW.)

Swansonvitamins.com has a lemon balm, passion flower, skullcap complex (new). I like passion flower. Still trying chinese skullcap. Hmm, I could combine my own.

Tried melatonin (=groggy on 1/2 mg) and 5HTP (strange reaction) early on with Lyme--didn't like. Melatonin is not for auto-immune problems (some say Lyme is close enough to that)...?

I use GABA (NOW brand, has B6) every night but that's an amino acid.

Hyland's Calms (chamomile) is for if I get up because I can't sleep. Chamomile is not for people with bad seasonal allergies, I believe.

Generic (CVS) clear "benedryl" gelcaps are my strongest help--regular Dr. said OK to use for sleep 3x/week.

My best suppliment is not a suppliment at all but a software program on my Iphone called Sleep Stream Premium. http://sleepstream.explosiveapps.com/

I use the Sleep setting and the Binaural setting Stress to Sleep to go to sleep and Power Nap 45 if I wake early. In full disclosure I do use a prescription also but this compliments it extremely well.

I introduced it to my nephews wife who was a skeptical nurse and gave her earbuds that were hollow tubes to be EMF friendly. She called me 5 days later and told me she was a believer.

I also asked the famous Dr. Perlmutter in person if there was anything to binuaral beats from a neurological view and he told me there was. Good enough for me and I know it helps.

(breaking up the post for easier reading for many here)
