just saw on news. they, fda, are issuing a warning that biaxin dramatically increases the risk of heart attack, even if you only take it for two weeks. they said the fda has known about this risk since 2005!!!!

they are warning people with even a hint of heart problems, history, etc, not to take this...ever.

I've had it i don't know how many times.

really annoys me. my sisters have all had this.

have you had any problems with biaxin?

Yes, I've heard that before. Thanks for reminding everyone.

I took Biaxin for about 18 months during Lyme treatment (2000-2004) .. and yes, I have heart issues.

(so did my mother and grandfather, etc)

seems. for those with lyme, the list of what we can't take just keeps getting longer and longer.

Oh, good grief, I just started on Biaxin 2 days ago!! I've had it before. I do have cardiac issues, although not heart disease. The cardiac issues I have are clearly from TBD's affecting the nervous system, as well as the heart. So between a rock and a hard place.

And I can't take fluoroquinolines (tendon ruptures) or zithromax (tinnitus). So pick your poison, as it were. But the "poison" of not treating the infections is life-threatening in my case, as in many. Sigh.

Thank you for the heads up, Randibear.

How are you doing, BTW??

Here's the link to the FDA info:

Biaxin FDA warning

However, the studies don't sound very good, don't give any indication of how Biaxin harms patients with heart disease, and they aren't planning any more studies!! What??

Way to go FDA. I'm not saying it isn't harmful, of course, just that they should study it better.

Seems the studies are always biased in favor of whatever their agenda is.

Carry on, Rumi.

I had terrible cardiac Lyme, heart block etc., many years ago. Biaxin is what cleared it up! I wouldn't hesitate to take it again.
