The anti-inflammatory diet is tough. Esp with the holidays coming up soon.

How do ppl do this?It seems very restrictive. Every single thing I eat or try I get paranoid then upset. Breakfast foods seem the hardest.

I start my H2 blocker today (Pepcid)

Yes it can be difficult in the beginning. Getting to know what you are sensitive to, eating only pure foods, preferably organic. Its difficult if you have to mix your diet with people who dont have to eat this way. Especially holidays.

I always just prepare my own food, wherever i go. Sometimes i will cook for other people, so they can enjoy some of my meals (they often like it!)

But hey, think of the benefits! In the supermarket you can skip 90% of the isles, just go for the health food! Think of the time you save...

Hate to sound like a broken record, but yasmina from healinghistamine has many recipe books you can use for inspiration. And her story could help you as well.

And be careful with medication. Even antihistamine drugs can have excipients that could aggrevate MCAS, as weirdly as that sounds...
Nalcrom is pretty safe and the only drug im willing to risk. There are more natural stabilizers that are safer (in fact, yasmina's entire recipe collection is centered around just that purpose).

Do you also take an H1?

I love my cromolyn sodium, but will tell you that I still have tons of sensitivities to foods. Mostly, it's "intoerances."

Nothing much to eat since I also have problems with salicylates and oxalates.

Oh well .. life goes on.

Just keep plugging away. The big thing is to stay away from foods high in histamine. No leftovers is a biggie. Especially no leftover proteins.

If there is anything leftover, I freeze it immediately.

Yes I use Allegra for a H1.

Do people do this diet for life? Seems restrictive enough that you may be missing out on healthy foods that are nutrient dense and could lead to defiencies. Is it sustainable ?

Sorry that's my opinion.

Ive been doing it for years now, and im eating more healthy than ever before. Yes the choice of ingredients are limited but that doesnt mean it cant be healthy or sustainable.

And certain things you can supplement if cronometer shows you are lacking. Zinc, iron, vit b12 and amino acids for example.

Its a matter of finding healthy alternatives for things that you were eating before. Like sweet potatoes or Butternut Squash instead of normal potatoes. Quinoa or buckwheat noodles instead of pasta etc.
I dont follow strict low histamine food lists (neither did yasmina), though i do avoid the very high histamine foods. Eating fresh, clean and anti-inflammatory is the way to go.

How does cromolyn help you? I just tried it and it caused an incredible amount of pain in my neck/traps/jaw etc. The right side of my face "sagged" because I think the muscles were pulled so tight.

I looked into cromolyn and it is developed using Ajwain seeds which are extremely high in oxalate. The pain it produced is the pain I get from eating high ox only this time it was pain on steroids.

I was really bummed because I wanted this product to work.

Wow .. that's not good then!!

I get that kind of pain from salicylates.

It helps me with being able to eat more foods without intense bloating and misery, for one thing.

It also helps my IC pain, as well as overall fatigue.

Admin from TLO FB gave me that info and as I just looked into it I think she is wrong on those seeds being related to cromolyn.

The science in this paper is beyond me but for some reason the authors were trying to come up with an easier way of measuring oxalate in cromolyn solution. The results show oxalates present but I have no idea if it is a significant amount.

Sheesh .. I know if I take the full dosage I swell but I figured that was from the sodium.
