Due to my genetics, I have high histamine so I do my best to avoid high histamine foods. My llmd believes I might have MCAS ( doing another urine test this week). I have Afrin's book and he says anti histamines help with mcas symptoms.

But for me, antihistamines make me wired so can't use for sleep either. This seems counterintuitive to me. Anyone know how it's possible my body doesnt like antihistamines since it seems to me that my body needs them???

Some MCAS patients have trouble taking them.

Which ones have you tried?

If all else fails, try some ketotifen.

most of SSRIs are antihistamine derived I think.
None of them worked for me in an attempt to get me off of zolpidem. zzzquil makes me hyper too.

I checked ketotifen.Isnt it just drops for itchy eyes?

you have to find the right one I think. my mom coulnd;t tollerate benedryl as it made her extreme hyper.

some people get tired from other H1 antihistamines.

Can you just do a trial of different ones?
I take Zyrtec (H1) and the costco version of Pepcid (H2) and they were a life saver.

I was so sick and I had read afrin's book too! and then decided what the heck and started taking them once a day and saw dramatic results.

Marz, I was on RX ketotifen and it was oral. It gave me reactions though, but sure wish it didn't becasue it really was helping with my MCAS!
