My Reverse T3 levels are low. My llmd is putting me on a Rx. Nothing ever was flagged until now.
I cannot tell you how many thyroid blood panels I've had since the age of 14 that were deemed "normal".
I always knew along with Lyme I had a messed up thyroid and hormonal issues. Last summer I was finally diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance. This crap all ties in.
It's very confusing the conversions of what does what TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3 ( maybe my brain fog just can't keep up lol)
Anyone have this? Is a *low* Reverse T3 odd? It seems many having the symptoms I have actually have a *high* Reverse T3.
I'm overwhelmed. Hoping though I may feel a bit better.

From what I understand, normal thyroid levels were established by simply testing many people and drawing an arbitrary line at a high and low point.
No one was examined to see if their thyroids were working normally. If you have symptoms, finding your levels under the "normal" range is meaningless.
In the case of an underactive thyroid, taking thyroid hormones will flood the blood with the hormone in the hope that some will enter into the cells.
So, a normal blood test to measure thyroid levels will read very high (which lowers the TSH). That's why it's important to rely on the levels of thyroid hormones that are actually used in the cells.
It's very important to have the right amount of thyroid activity in the body because it's like the gas pedal to all body functions, affecting everything.

So are you saying I shouldn't treat the R T3?
I know its quite a balancing act and some of these meds/ supplements must be introduced slowely with caution and things monitored.

This should help a lot, mountain, as long as your Dr takes care of it correctly. Many have no clue.
Sometimes endocrinologists are the worst ones to take care of it.

I had an Endocrinologist I started seeing this past summer that I really liked. She was pleasant, good beside manner and didn't scoff at my Lyme.
However, I believe with her training she is unable to help me further. To clarify she didn't run these recent thyroid tests, my LLMD did.

Hmm, I thought you wanted a lower reverse t3. I've been on thyroid because low free, high reverse.

Right. It's very frustrating. It was too low though, enough to be flagged. I don't know anymore.
