My 4 year old grandson was discussed with an engorged tick in his head. Our family has a horrible history with tick born disease. Unfortunately the state he lives in the pediatrician does not believe in prophylactic treatment. My understand is amoxicillin is the drug of choice at this age and telemedicine is available. In addition we have the choice of sending the tick I believe to Igenix or or Ticknology which has a 72 hour turn around. Any thoughts on the treatment or where to send the tick? Thanks

I would send to Igenex and treat with amoxy if it were me.

Tick testing is not iron-clad and you have to pay for each disease separately, so it can get pricey.

Best of luck to you and your grandson!

Is there an urgent care nearby that might provide an antibiotic?

The urgent care near me does provide antibiotic treatment right away for a tick bite, although it is only 7 days not 28 like recommended.

Best wishes.
