Hello I am desperate! I'm actually seeking information for a doctor for my uncle. He has had medical issues for many years, a lot of neurological problems, back problems, trouble walking stuff like that. I myself went through the whole lyme struggle and am now (luckily) mostly better (other then recently learning I also have Ehlers Danlos and having a rib resection surgery). But this is about something WAY more important.

My uncle got so desperate he tried to commit suicide. He jumped off a bridge and was rescued by a fisherman. He is now in a psychiatric hospital.

Please please please!!! I am seeking names of LLMD's in Maine, preferably southern Maine on the Portland area.

Thank you so so much in advance!

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for ME & NH.

Your uncle need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

They are far and few between, unfortunately. You need to go where they are.

Most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/MaineLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a new book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Also read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

Thanks so much for the PM! I really appreciate it!

I'm actually not knew to lymenet, it's been a huge help to me when I was deep in the throws of lyme. The very helpful people on here have helped answer so many questions and even helped me find my LLMD in CT (a Dr M) who was fantastic! So I knew exactly who to turn to for help with my uncle.

Cute Unknown is a fantastic book! I recommend to everyone I know who has faced Lyme themselves or with a loved one. I will look for the other book you mentioned too! Sounds very interesting.

I hit a road block in my recovery until my LLMD did the allele testing and found out my genes don't allow me to detox lyme toxins very well and then he put me on much stronger binders. Bamboo charcoal was a lifesaver!

Thanks again so so much for the PM and additional information! Your an angel!
