Contacted both Dr J in SC and DR P in Raleigh, NC (I live 15 min from Raleigh) in need of initial consultaion and testing.
My question - is it worth the 3-4 hour drive and more $$ to see Dr J in SC? His first available in mid June.
DR P first available is mid May.

Probably is, since I've never heard of an LLMD in NC named Dr P.
How long has he been treating Lyme? Are you SURE he's Lyme Literate and treats longterm?

Is he in Raleigh? You may just want to check.
I did see Dr J twice -- he did not think i was a good candidate for oral abx, so I quit seeing him. He did almost nothing for me. I take that back, his tests were very comprehensive.
His IV abx treatment is extremely expensive.
I know that he has patients who admire and respect him a great deal, so please get other opinions.

editing to add: For me it is absolutely worth the eight-hour drive for good care.
If you are unable to drive, the Amtrak does go to MD and DC, but it is a grueling trip.

Please verify because Dr P in Raleigh was referred to me by someone on this board as a LLMD. NC LDF also referred him. You can PM me..
I'm trying to decide between the two. Any info on either MD would be appreciated.

Yes, Dr. P in Raleigh is an LLMD.
Just google search Dr. P's name and the word Lyme.
I have heard that Dr. P uses more of an oral antibiotic's route than does Dr. J in SC.

I did not mean to give the impression that I was a patient of Dr. P in Raleigh. Because I am not.
I had just read about Dr. P being a Lyme Literate doc. Dr. P was listed as an LLMD on the old Washington Lyme Disease site.
And I have seen his name mentioned elsewhere as being an LLMD as well.
And I agree, oral antibiotics are just fine.

I am not far from you in NC and am having a hard time like you are.
I will PM you when i get a chance i have two beautiful boys saying mommy read to me.
Real quick i have been on Oral from a wonderful LLMD in Chesapeake i can give you her name and i am going to see Dr. J in May i have heardup and downs.
I teach my third graders to take in as much info as you can then you find the parts that fit for you or make you find the answer to the question.
We all find answers differently.
My answer is i am going to see as many doctors as it takes to find the one that will understand me and help me.
The Dr. in chesapeake also recommended dr J.
My advice would be to see both excpecially if your insurance will pay for the one in Raliegh (never heard of)
Dr. J will do out of network insurance

I have been a patient of both. From what I know Dr. P low doses his abx, with too much time off. He also requires IV vitamins 10 - 12 treatments of them. His detox usually comes at the end of your regimen. I was not impressed. His vitamin guy is very good though.
Dr. J. is very maverick, he so sure of himself and the IV will wear out your bank account quickly.
If you have money to pay for IV, I would fly to New York and see Dr. H. (Who I ended up seeing and got some releif)
