My wife was diagnosed with chronic Lyme by a very well know and well respected Lyme doctor in the Boston area about a year ago. She has been on oral antibiotic treatment since then and is starting to feel better. We currently live in New Hampshire but will probably be moving to Bend, OR this summer sometime. One of our major concerns is her continued treatment. From what I've read here and elsewhere treatment in Oregon is difficult. I'm looking for doctor reference in Oregon or the surrounding states. We are not against traveling for treatment. We may even come back to Boston for treatment if necessary.
Thank you all for your help and support.
~Matt

You are correct. Oregon is one of the worst states to even try to receive care for lyme or any other tick borne infection. No LLMD is allowed in this state.

However, once in a while if someone presents with a rash and their doctor is somewhat informed, they might get nine days' worth of a single drug.

And, yet, another person may present with rash and be told "there is no lyme in Oregon" and turned away.

There are a few good LL ND (naturopathic doctors) and a few MDs who know more than others about all this. But, if they openly treat chronic lyme, they risk loosing their license or be required to treat only E.R. patients with the stipulation that they never diagnose or treat lyme ever again (it has happened).

Some GPs may be a support doctor for those being treated by out of state LLMDs and, for as kind as some of them may be, they just may not have the knowledge required but can still be a good team member in other ways.

Most lyme patients travel out of state for treatment.

There is an active support network and you should contact them. The founder of that group lives in Bend.
