Can you please recommend a good lyme specialist in the RI area?
My 8y/o daughter came down with 3 weeks of flu-like symptoms in May of 2007. She tested negative for Lyme at the time, but I didn't know to ask more specifically about the testing.
She improved, but about a year later developed back aches on/off.
Then this summer she started having migranes, swollen glands in neck, low fevers on/off, and in the fall a swollen wrist, then a swollen ankle.
She has seen orthopods, DO's, rheumatologists, neurologists and (thankfully) has tested negative for everything else with the exception of migraines.
When her pediatrician reviewed her chart today with me, she mentioned that she was clinically negative for Lyme in the last 2 western blot tests, but there were 4 positive bands in August 2010 that showed old exposure, and three in November without changes or new exposure.
She has never been treated for lyme, but did have strep throat 3x over 3-4 mos shortly after that initial illness and received amoxicillin (x10 days ea) twice, and omnicef once. (She never was a sick kid -- that was a tough summer)
Her doctor finally decided today to prescribe a round of doxycyclene 200mg/day for 4 wks that we will be starting shortly...
Will this be an appopriate treatment? Will we be basically treating chronic lyme? Do people/kids ever essentially fight off lyme without treatment? Any help will be very appreciated!

Let me know if you don't find someone in RI and if you want to consider traveling to Albany, NY. My son has a pediatrician who is a top notch LLMD. She travels to CT once a week to mentor & confer with Dr. J. (famous peds. LLMD)
