Why do most the doctors that come highly recommended, not take health insurance? one doc that was highly recommended to me by several people, wanted $1,000 just for a consultation fee! And that did not include any treatments.
Seems very odd to me Are there any LLMD doctors that *do* take insurance in NY?

Did you receive the list for NY? Sometimes those who take insurance will be noted on the list.

it makes sense...but doesn't excuse the outrageous fees they are charging just for consulation fees. I did find one LLMD doc about 2 hours away that does take insurance. There are ways to treat with in insurance guidelines. Other doctors do.

Think about it...you go to your primary care doc- for me it's $75 for one appt that lasts LESS than 15 mins. Well if I was to take up an hr of his time that would $300. And even more for longer.
You also have to realize these doctors are doing things they are supposed to be doing. They aren't supposed to be treating lyme so aggressively since it's not supported by the medical community. These doctors put themselves, their practices and their licenses in danger in order to treat us.
Docs who take insurance are less likely to treat aggressively in my experience. The are not as knowledgable or as willing to treat with the right dosage and for the right time frame.

In 2007, I think that my initial LLMD appt was 90 minutes long, and about $700. Add another $700 for testing, and supplements, and my first appt was over $1500.
It was worth every penny -- I am well today (have been for 4 years) thanks to my LLMD. It cost me A LOT of money to get well. Still paying the credit card bills -- but I am healthy!

I'm thinking the insurance will pay for my daughters treatment because she tested postive for IgM and IgG. Those who test negative, might have a hard time convincing insurance companies to pay.
We see an ID doc soon. I am well versed now in Dr. Burrascano guidelines. If this ID doc doesn't treat my daughter, I'll have to go to a LLMD doc. LouLou, I'm very happy you're well now! Very true that our LLMD's are actually cheaper than other drs when you figure it out on a per minute basis. .. not to mention actually getting WELL!

gina, it is a very rare ID doc who will treat lyme properly. We are generally abused by ID docs because they on the "other side" of the lyme disease controversy.
The IDSA has declared that lyme is rare and easily treated with no more than 30 days of antibiotics. So, the IDs all toe the party line.
If you bring up the Burrascano Guidelines to an ID, it is like waving a red flag in front of a bull.

Thanks TF. I know what you are saying about ID's, and if he gives me a hard time, then I won't be seeing him again! He just happens to be a friend of the family so I'm giving him a shot. But bottom line is, if he doesn't treat my daughter properly, I'll move on.
