Hello all! I have simultaneous appointments with two LLMDs in February (one in DC and the other in Western PA). But I feel I need to see someone before that. I have an extra added caveat in treatment as I do not have adrenal function and must take replacement steroid only basically to live and will most likely have to take 'stress doses' in order to rally to beat Lyme and co-infectiono. I really appreciate any insight into a whom a good doc may be. Thanks so much.

I hope you get some specific names and contact numbers.

---------------------------

In the meantime, details in the threads below should help.

As for taking a "replacement steroid" for Adrenal function, many with lyme have severe problems with adrenal system, so that would be nothing new to a LLMD.

However, the dose and exact kind of steroid you are should be assessed by whomever you see for lyme.

Usually, steroids are bad news with lyme. There are a couple "however's" there, though.

Many with lyme take adrenal supplements and that may be all the support needed at this time. Many more, however, are prescribed a very lose dose (physiological dose) of hydrocortisone (Cortef) for various lengths of time.

While not about lyme, if you've not yet seen this, you may want to: Jefferies' book "Safe Uses of Cortisol" [ http://www.gotodrdoyle.com/william-jefferies-md-safe-uses-of-cortisol.php ]

For those with either Addison's or Cushing's (both adrenal conditions seemingly at opposite ends of the spectrum but more alike when lyme is the cause) . . . well, the LLMD would still be the first one to help guide you here and if you need higher doses, I'm sure the delicate balance could be worked out.

If needed, they would refer you to a lyme literate specialist. Still, the LLMD would have to know all that you take.

Adrenal support links are about half-way through this thread.

If you have questions along the way, be sure to post in the Medical section.

Good luck.

(What ILADS is) . . . WHY you need an ILADS-educated, Lyme Literate Doctor

===============================

http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/2/13964

How to find an ILADS-educated LL:

N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor);

L.Ac. (Acupuncturist);

D.Ay. (Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine);

D.O.M. (Doctor of Oriental Medicine);

Holistic M.D., etc.

Links to many articles and books by holistic-minded LL doctors of various degrees who all have this basic approach in common:

Understanding of the importance of addressing the infection(s) fully head-on with specific measures;

Knowing that support supplements are important, but NEVER enough alone. And knowing which supplements have direct impact, which are only support and which are both.

You can compare and contrast many approaches.

BASIC HERBAL EDUCATIONAL links, and

BODY WORK links with safety tailored to lyme patients,

RIFE links,

BIONIC 880 (& PE-1) links, and

LOW HEAT INFRARED SAUNA detail.

Thank you for all of this info Keebler. I will begin studying!

I have read Jeffries book, thank God. Although always low in ACTH and cortisol, most likely from dysregulation of the HPA axis from undiagnosed Lyme, my adrenals actually failed in 2008, meaning I now make no cortisol, so I will tread lightly and find someone who, as you said well, can help me make choices in that department as well as in Lyme treatment. Thanks again!
