There is a top notch lyme doctor in Washington, D.C. who treats children and adults. You can take the train from NJ (about 3 hours) and then very short subway ride or just walk.
After the first appointment, you can have telephone appointments. So, you won't be traveling there more than twice per year.
I have been hearing from the folks in NJ that there aren't really any good lyme doctors there. So, if you are interested in the D.C. doc, let me know. I will give you lots of info on her. You won't be sorry. The wait is about 8 weeks last I heard.
Try contacting the NJ lyme support groups (see Support Groups on left side of page) for names of lyme friendly doctors who may be able to help you until you can get in with a really good lyme doctor.
The best chance of getting rid of this disease is if you get to a top notch lyme doctor. The doc is the key. Many doctors treat lyme, but only a few know enough to get rid of it for a person.
That's what I learned after 10 years of being involved with this disease. I got rid of lyme and coinfections 7 years ago after trying a number of lyme doctors. Now, I stick around LymeNet just to point people to the best docs so they don't have to spend years trying to get rid of this horrendous disease.
Let me know if you want the name.
