I was bitten two years ago, and though I removed the tick and never exhibited any bulls eye rash, I have suffered intermittently since then with fatigue (really unusual for me), short term cognitive impairment and joint pain (have already had cortisone shots in both arms and now a third location. Now the ball of my foot is swollen and it's difficult to walk. I have a doctor recommendation (Bruce Lessin), and if he's Lyme Literate, great - but if not... I desperately need to go to someone who can give me the right tests. I live in McLean, VA (22101) and am close to Falls Church and Arlington, VA. Please help... Thank you.

Do not allow any doctor to give you anymore steroids of any kind--not shots, pills, or anything unless you are in a life-threatening (can't breathe) situation.
Here is a quote from the Burrascano Guidelines, page 12:
"More evidence has accumulated indicating the severe detrimental effects of the concurrent use of immunosuppressants including steroids in the patient with active B. burgdorferi infection. Never give steroids or any other immunosuppressant to any patient who may even remotely be suffering from Lyme, or serious, permanent damage may result, especially if given for anything greater than a short course."
On page 4, he says that shots into the joints are forbidden also.
These steroids (cortisone, etc.) just suppress your immune system, letting the lyme run wild in your body. So, it makes your case of lyme worse and/or more difficult to cure.
Generally the cortisone makes you feel better for a while, but then you feel worse than before thanks to the lyme advancing while your immune system was suppressed.
I have never heard of Bruce Lessin.
I suggest you go to the lyme friendly doc I named for you in my private message. You can get in in about 2 weeks, and this doc takes insurance.
Then, switch over to the top lyme doc I recommend when you can get in.

Please break up your posts into 2-3 sentence paragraphs, as there are people on Lymenet who cannot read large blocks of text due to neurological problems from Lyme. Thanks.
