I'm from Illinois, but have moved down to my parents' home in South Carolina for the time being to try to get a handle on my Lyme. I'm seeing a good doctor, but unfortunately he does not know much about Lyme.
A little background: I'm 26 and have suffered from increasing health problems since I had double mono at age 18. This past February I was finally diagnosed with Lyme (with IGeneX Western Blot), but I have no idea when I became infected.
My IL doctor is not a registered LLMD, but has shadowed Dr. C in Missouri. I'm extremely sensitive to antibiotics and herx very badly. I was able to slowly get through Doxy, and then tried to do Flagyl for a couple months, but it was too powerful for me. So I just switch to Ceftin a few days ago. I'm only taking 1/4 of 250 mg tablet once daily, and although it's not my worst ever herx, it's pretty bad already (cognitive impairment, very severe physical/mental fatigue, all over achiness, etc.).
While I have this time away from my job in IL, I would like to find an LLMD to make sure I'm on the right track. Thank you so much for your help.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for NC (I don't know of any in SC).
You need to be evaluated an treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!
Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

Bklaus,
My family lives in Charleston and I travel there often.
My LLMD -- the best I've seen so far and a true delight -- is in Jacksonville, Fla., just south of you. She is extremely literate about co-infections as well.
She is great at offering the right relief for herxing as well as pulsing abx and working up to a good level slowly. She also gives rife treatments in her office. Image that, a doc who gives rife treatments!
