Hello! I am new to this group. I am 21 and was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease. I was on a 28 day cycle of doxycycline. It has been 3 weeks about since I finished my doxy and while my speech and walking are still better, my other symptoms are starting to get worse all over. Thankfully my lyme test came back positive but my fiancé (19) is starting to experience the same debilitating symptoms but his tests are negative so no one will give him doxy. We are looking for a LLMD in New York state. We live in Central NY closer to Syracuse. We have talked with Dr. B, and although he sounds like an amazing Dr he is a little expensive for us. We then talked to Dr C and his prices are a little better for us. Was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions? Maybe of LLMDs that do payment plans or aren't as expensive. I know there probably isn't because of insurance and how important they are. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for NY.

You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease and its complex treatment!

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. You need to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not take insurance due to the politics surrounding this disease. Read poster TF's explanation about this:

"Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance"
http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/2/15615?#000005

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner to see a LLMD by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/newyorklyme

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):
www.lyme-aware.org/new-york.html
www.empirestatelymediseaseassociation.org

Read the new book written by Dr. H, the top Lyme-literate doctor, entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Also "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

View "Under Our Skin" for free on www.hulu.com

Btw - please break up your posts into 2-3 sentence paragraphs, as there are people on Lymenet who cannot read large blocks of text due to neurological problems from Lyme. Thanks.
