In 2010 my husband found two ticks on his body. Shortly thereafter we visited a local doctor and he was given an antibitic for lyme disease. Recently he has been experiencing some more symptoms. He is 28 yrs old and we're located in the Melbourne, Fl area. We're willing to travel for a consultation. Does anyone have any physician recommendations?

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for FL.

Your husband needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

They are far and few between, unfortunately. You need to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

There was one in Tampa, but he retired.

When you call for an appointment, ask if there are any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/floridalyme

Maybe they can help you.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups):

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a new book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Also read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

Btw - please break up your posts into 2-3 sentence paragraphs, as there are people on Lymenet who cannot read large blocks of text due to neurological problems from Lyme. Thanks.
