Hi!! I am looking for a good dr. near the Vero Beach area in Fl. I'm willing to travel but they need to take insurance. Does such a doctor exist?

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for LLMD in FL (this LLMD does not take insurance).

You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

They are far and few between, unfortunately. You need to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/2/15615?#000005

There are some LLMDs (very few) who take insurance, but they are out of state.

When you call for an appointment, ask if there are any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/FloridaLyme/info

Maybe they can help you.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups):
www.lyme-aware.org/florida.html

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a new book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Also read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

Hi,
If you go to Support Groups in the menu at the upper left on this page, you can probably contact a Florida support group in your area.

Also http://www.lyme-aware.org/florida.html should lead you to some people who know about doctors in your area.

I am not sure what this means:
"PM for FL (does not take insurance)."

There are doctors who treat Lyme disease who do take insurance. Ask when you call to ask about the doctor and make an appointment.

Ann-OH - I sent a PM to the poster for a good LLMD in FL, but one who does not take insurance.

I have edited my post to clarify this.
