Hello, all,

I have a ten-year-old son unfortunately exhibiting signs matching chronic Lyme.

I am hoping for a referral for a Lyme-literate ILADS doctor (preferably pediatric specialist) in our area. We live in Racine, WI, but can travel within the area, especially to Milwaukee or Kenosha, WI.

We would consider going as far afield as Madison, WI, or Chicago, IL, if necessary for treatment. However as there has not yet been a diagnosis we hope not to have to cross that bridge.

I'd be very grateful to know our options. Thank you.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for WI & IL.

Your dear son needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

They are far and few between, unfortunately. You need to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

When you call for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in earlier by doing this. Ask if they treat children also, because some do and some don't.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/WisconsinLyme

Maybe they can help.

Dr. H, the top LLMD, has written a new book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check the local library or buy it used on Amazon.

Hi LauraBeth,

I'm sorry to hear about you son but unfortunately LLMDs are hard to find and often require extensive travel.

I know of a very good LLMD (one of mine) in MO. Dr.C. I would not be here if it weren't for him. I know it would be a drive for you but I'm not aware of anyone else in the midwest area at all.

Hope you are able to find someone soon.
