So a few years ago a negative Lyme test came up but i got sicker and sicker. I found a doctor who treated me for Lyme 3months. I stopped tx as i was worried about taking too many antibiotics. Well i ended up in the hospital 3 weeks ago for 4 days, MRIs. Eegs.2 ER visits. Nobody knows what it's going on. I had to drop out of grad school this semester, its been bad. Only doxycycline helps, but my drs dont believe me and the one that did and treated me just died 2 weeks ago. I need help. My brain and heart are sparking, in pain. Help please. Ill take referral for D DC, VA or MD

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for VA & MD.

You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

They are far and few between, unfortunately. You need to go where they are.

Also most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/2/15615?#000005

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner to see a LLMD by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/MarylandLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):
www.lyme-aware.org/maryland.html

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a new book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

View "Under Our Skin" for free on www.hulu.com

Btw - please break up your posts into 2-3 sentence paragraphs, as there are people on Lymenet who cannot read large blocks of text due to neurological problems from Lyme. Thanks.

I sent you a name and lots of info.

3 months of treatment is insufficient to get rid of lyme disease. You have to treat until you are totally symptom-free, and then treat at least 2 months more.

This is stated in the Burrascano LYme Treatment Guidelines found at the top of Medical Questions and also here:

http://www.ilads.org/lyme/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf

Besides that, you need tested and treated for every coinfection that you have. In Maryland, every lyme patient that I have known who had lyme also had babesiosis and bartonella. I had all 3 and so did all of my friends. Lyme doctors call them "the big 3."

You see, the ticks that are carrying lyme are also carrying other tick-borne infections. They are called co-infections.

Until you get rid of every single infection the tick gave you, you can't get rid of lyme. These infections all help one another to remain in your body.

So, being treated just for lyme rarely works.

Get yourself to a doctor who truly specializes in lyme disease and get this thing turned around.

A good lyme doctor knows that the lyme tests are unreliable and they will treat you based on symptoms even though you have a negative lyme test. The lyme tests miss about half of all cases of lyme disease.

Welcome to LymeNet! We will help you here all we can.

zackron79 - Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for VA & MD.

I understand you are new to the site and are learning how to navigate it. That's how it was for all of us in the beginning! We're still learning, for what it's worth - lol!

It is recommended you write a new post instead of adding on to an existing one. That way, more will see it and respond. Most people don't re-read old posts.
