Please help me find a lyme specialist in New York City for my 2 year old.

He had a bullseye, was put on antibiotics for two weeks by our family doctor. The lyme test came back negative so they think he was not infected but everything I read says a bullseye always means lyme. Seems like he should continue the treatment and we need a more knowledgable doctor.

How long is lyme "early stage" and treatable? Does it make sense to take him of antibiotics until the next test in two weeks?

Thank you in advance for responses and referrals.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for CT.

The bull's-eye rash is definitive for Lyme.

Your dear son needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. You need to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not take insurance due to the politics surrounding this disease. Read poster TF's explanation about this:

"Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance"

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/NewYorkLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):

Read the book written by Dr. H, the top Lyme-literate doctor, entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Also "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

The bullseye IS DIAGNOSTIC for Lyme disease .. you are correct!

More reliable info on Lyme:

Early lyme testing will usually come back falsely negative. Your son must receive proper treatment ASAP. I would not take him off antibiotics at this early stage!

Testing will not show correctly for at least 6 weeks.

PS .. There aren't any LLMD's in NYC that I would recommend, and there are definitely not any pediatric LLMD's there.
