I am looking for a provider in the Tampa Florida area. I am also wondering if you know anything about Lifeworks Wellness Center in Clearwater, Florida. Thank you!

The pickins are slim in the entire state of Florida. The one lyme doc that I used to recommend and who was in Tampa retired about 1 1/2 years ago.

I now recommend that patients in Florida come north to the Maryland/D.C. area for good treatment.

See "Support Groups" on the left side of this page. Contact all of them to get more info on treatment options in Florida.

Very few lyme doctors can cure lyme. Very few. So, to get good care, you have to travel. If you stay in Florida, you will likely treat and treat and never get well.

If you are willing to fly to the D.C. area once every 3 months, you can see the doc I am recommending. Let me know if you want the name.

Good for you for finding LymeNet and asking for a doctor here. Welcome! We will help you all we can.

unfortunately he is really not able to leave the area for treatment. He is seeing a provider in Clearwater next month. If he tests positive the therapy is IV ozone. this practice is too expensive so we will look elsewhere but go to them for the initial tests. He had Lyme disease in 1987. Treated and on his way. In 1997 he injured his back and we have been dealing with back pain and surgeries. He is still in terrible pain and it is now in all of his joints. finally hit me it's probably the Lyme disease!!! Poor guy has had two lumbar fusions. His situation has completely destroyed us financially. I am so worried that he has been untreated for so many years. Praying it has not invaded any vital organs....

Welcome to Lymenet!

I'm not familiar with the center you asked about.

The gentleman needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

http://www.lymenet.org/BurrGuide200810.pdf

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. He needs to go where they are. There was one in Tampa, but he retired.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

When you call for an appointment, ask if there are any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/FloridaLyme/info

Maybe they can help you.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups):
www.lyme-aware.org/florida.html

http://www.lymenet.org/SupportGroups/UnitedStates/Florida/

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Also read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

View "Under Our Skin" for free on www.hulu.com

Btw - please break up your posts into 2-3 sentence paragraphs, as there are people on Lymenet who cannot read large blocks of text due to neurological problems from Lyme.

To do this, click the pencil/paper icon, make your changes, then click "Edit Post". Thanks.

thank you for all of the information. My husband's appointment is the end of February so we can save the $350 it costs. This is all so overwhelming!

Is anyone aware of LLMD's in Maine or the Boston area?

You're very welcome - glad to help.

You should write a new post asking for info on LLMDs in Maine or the Boston area. That way, more people will see it and respond, because most don't re-read old posts.

PM sent for ME.
