Hi,

I have not been diagnosed with Lyme disease yet, but have multiple symptoms across multiple systems that have been unexplainable to my doctors, and I completed the Dr. H Lyme-MSIDS Questionnaire and scored 55 ("high probability of having a tick-borne illness").

What type of doctor should I see for testing? I did have a Western Blot (through a generic lab (labcorp) last year which showed negative, but my symptoms are getting worse. My son was also treated for Lyme 2 years ago after we found a deer tick embedded (for 5 days. Ugh) after our vacation in Kentucky.

Do I need to travel away from the Atlanta area for the testing/initial visit?

Thank you!

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for FL & MD.

You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. You need to go where they are. I don't know of any in GA.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

Testing should be done through IGeneX Labs in Palo Alto, CA.

Is your son experiencing any problems?

When you call for an appointment, ask if there are any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/GeorgiaLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources (including Support Groups):

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Also read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

S,

If you go to www.FloridaLyme.org you will see a doctor referral section on the menu to your left. That will give you contact information for traditional, natural and other kinds of health care providers.

Hope you find someone to help you!
