I am 30 years old and have been sick since May 2014. I've gone through the dozens of doctors and windy roads that everyone else has as a result of this terrible illness. I've been with 2 different LLMD's over the past 22 months, but after educating myself, have realized I need someone better to help get me over the hump.

Dr. H in NY is not accepting patients even on his waiting list, so no option there. I've been told Dr. J in Washington DC is the 2nd best (debatable, I'm sure). I called Dr J in Washington DC and was told that I'd never be meeting with Dr. J, just one of his PA's throughout the entirety of treatment. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Have you been to Dr. J? Has somebody you know? If it can't be posted here, please PM me with *any* information you can give me, especially about the experience of working with his PA's for the duration of treatment. Are they competent enough? How successful was your / their treatment?

Like the rest of us, I just want to do whatever it takes to get my life back. Thank you in advance!

Personally, I would not go to him myself.

TF has the name of someone you can see in Maryland. I understand he's really good.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for MD.

You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. You need to go where they are.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

When you call for an appointment, ask if there are any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/NewJerseyLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Also read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check your local library or buy it used on Amazon.
