Hi All~

I am looking for an Infectious Disease Specialist in Northern Vermont.

I was tested (Igenex) and diagnosed with Lyme & Bartonella in July of 2016.

I believe I have had this since August 2014, possibly longer as I have pretty bad neurological symptoms.

I have been in treatment since July 2016 by a natropathic physician who is wonderful.

After contacting an attorney about pursuing disability I was told that I needed a "well respected MD", someone who is not "out on a limb" (his words not mine) to have any chance of getting disability.

Does anyone have any leads on an Infectious Disease Specialist MD who 'believes' in a natropathic approach and would also be "well respected" in the eyes of Social Security?

~Much Thanks In Advance~

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for NH.

Stay away from Infectious Disease Doctors (IDSA). They believe one dose of antibiotics is enough and don't believe in chronic Lyme. Patients end up getting sicker.

Here is a link for you to read about "Two Standards of Care":

You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. You need to go where they are. I don't know of any in VT.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in to sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/VermontLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources (including Support Groups info):

Read the books written by the top LLMD, Dr. H, titled, "Why Can't I Get Better?" and his new one, "How Can I Get Better?". They are an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check the local library or buy it used on Amazon.
