A Look at Life, With Lyme , Threw Dar's Eye's.....................!
"What It's Like Living With Lyme" Or Any Other Chronic Illness Compromizing the Immune System. Lyme has taken away my life as I once knew it back in 1992. And starting on Augest 21, 1999, I now get to stay at home all day and every day and watch every one else get to have a life, and go to work. With Lyme, I can no longer go for those nice walks in the evening's.
I can't carry the vaccum up the stairs without having to stop at the top and catch my breath. It's just a memory when I could mow the yard, or weed eat it. Living with Lyme, there's times I'm right back in bed by 10:45 and having to sleep, or rest, till 4:30, because I just can't keep my eye's open. And I got out of bed at 8:30. There's times I'm awake, but can't focus, or think straight, because of the "Brain-Fog".
With Lyme, I'm forced to sit on the side, while the grandkids play, because I'm to weak to try and keep up with them. Once around the block is more that I can muster up on my bike, because I'm winded, and have to go take a time out for 1/2 hr, just to try and do the next thing. Just washing the car or van is more that I can handle, and I'm aching for the next day and a half, and so stiff just walking is a major chore.
I once could play flat-top guitar for hrs. on end. Now I'm lucky if I can make it for 25-30 mins. before my arm's are so stiff and aching, almost like I was hanging by my hands from the horizontal-bar, suspended above a pit of alagators, before I fall in for their main meal. Like they do on Surivor.
In the recording studio, most of the time on the flat-top track's, I have to do a retake 25-30 times, because my arms get so stiff & tence they just lock up. I just can't keep going. I think I'm going to have to do 10-12 takes, and when I cramp up, pull that slider down, where I left off, and push up the next one, and so on, and so on, till I have that one track done. Playing bass, is ok soooooooo far. When I can't play bass, I'm done recording music.
But I'm eating "Raw-Garlic" 3-5 times a week, and it's helped me more that all our money in the bank did, till we were broke, and no more appointments with the Lyme Dr. Dar eat's about 1 bulb a week of"RAW GARLIC" in pickled beat-juice, to add flavor,
and it's sooooooo Hot, Ya'll's have Fire-&-Smoke-&-Steam coming out of every-orfice from yr body..........!!!!!!!!!! BUT, It will do ya-a-fixer-up-er, on yr insides and boost your immune system. Saw Dr. yesterday, and my cholestral is down again. Bad has gone down over 100 points in 1 1/2 years from it. Good up 30 points.
My tour bus Mech. Ken, in Wis. said just " BUCK-UP " and eat a raw clove every-day. And 2 years later, I'm eating a "Bulb"-of-Garlic-a-Week-Raw,"and feeling better than ever and Recording music once again. With Lyme, we got to spend all of our life's savings trying to get Dar a little bit of health and strength back, and
we sold our Tour Bus, and put that money towards it too, to no avail. And now were "Flat Broke", and with the rest of ya's Lyme-People, begging for one -two-more dollors cuz it's the 28th of the month and thAre's no-more-money-left. Should of bought that Parachute Air-Plane, with the bus money, like I wanted to, and get back into flying. Every thing's gone now, and NOTHING to show for it, That Hurt's............!
With Lyme I have people tell me I look good enough to go get a job, and if they only knew that by the time I would get to work, I'm ready for a nap, because on the good days, just staying awake is a chore. I spent a day with friend's,
Don-&-Teri, from "Rt. 5", a band I worked with back in Waupaca Wis., walking around Bass Pro, in Springfield Mo., and could barely walk for the next 2 1/2 days, and that's with 4 extra strengh pain pill's. ( Tramadal ).
With Lyme, I no longer get to look foward to getting older, and retiring, and enjoying life, and spending time playing with all the grandkid's. Doing those fun things that retired folk's do. I'm already OLD, and can't do the thing's my 87 year old dad can still do.
My dad, is in better health, and has twice the strength I do, and I'm only 56 years old. NO, Wait, I'm only 48, & Lying Threw My Teeth. Life stopped being fun back in 1992, when it all started with that "Tic Bite"...................! And things have gotten a whole lot worse over the years. Got so many broken-toy-part's, it ain't funny.
2007 is as bad as it get's ! Living with Lyme, I feel like I'm a 98 year old man, at the age of 48, (I'm Remembering Here Folk's) and I have the rest of my life to live with nothing to do but watch all the healthy people ( Toy's ! New Cars & Good Parts ) get to have a life, and go to work, and do the very things they take for granted, because with, NO health and strength, just ain't nothing ya CAN-DO ANYMORE.
I'll live the rest of my "Horrible-Life" on Prozac, Tramadal, and a few more med's, to keep from going NUT's-O, because I'm stuck in this young looking body, and can't do much of anything anymore. Every day I wake up still alive,
I have to do what I still can barely do and wait to see if I awake tomorrow morning. Ya'll don't want to take yr self out, but ya can't stand having no quality of life anymore, either.
And Lyme has gotten so bad that I can't get the corn-flake's to my mouth any more because of the shaking of my hands and the stiffness in my arm's. Pouring from a gal. of milk is only by leaning it over the table. To try and pick it up and pour it, would make a mess all over the place. Living with "Lyme", is living with no quality of life at all.
Living with Lyme, is almost not worth living at all,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but ya just keep on living,,,,,,,,,& living,,,,,,,,,,,,& living,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,& ya never die, but you sure think it would be a better choice.
BUT, No,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, every day is just one more day of TORCHER, to get through, while the healthy ones ( Toy's ) keep having a life, and worse yet STILL-HAVING-FUN.................................... () I DONT LIKE HEALTHY TOY's ! () Part 2 is "Wors'ser", and Part 3 Dar has a hard time reading. Deperssion, makes good people, do bad things !

dar,
i hear you; feel your pain and the ISOLATION from society because "we look good" and our INVISIBLE LYME does not appear to those who are NOT LYME LITERATE!
i know too; how EXPENSIVE this darn lyme disease is and fighting the insurance companies and SSDI folks to get disability insurance payments.
sorry, you can't enjoy your grandkids more and MAKE MEMORIES with them.
hang in there; only those of us walking in LYME or co-infection shoes, will ever understand this MONSTER of a disease!
dar, i also did a search looking for your name where i may have copied to other posts, DAR'S TOY STORY; nothing popped in during my search.
how is mrs. dar? i read her post talking about being a spouse of the "broken toy"; excellent advise for spouses of lyme patients!
may tomorrow be better than today.
what's a flat guitar? like most players play...right vs. steel guitar that i'm familiar with.
what's difference between bass and flat guitar?

A flat top guitar is one that is made of wood, and is a hollow body, and has 6 strings. The other guitar is solid body, and is electric pick up. All of my flat tops have a pick up in them to play threw my Peavey Amps. But is not nessary, becouse they are quite loud with out a amp. A bass has 4-5 strings, and is plays the lower notes making the song sound fuller. A steel guitar had 10 strings, and is played with a slide bar. Some call it the Hawain guitar. Hope this helps ya. Thanks Again for helping me get me story out to as many as we can. Im sure it has helped a lot of people know what its like being "A Broaken Toy"............!

I empathize with your pain. As I was reading your story, a red flag jumped up: You wrote that you were eating a bowl of cornflakes! One of the ways to feel better is to change your diet to: low carbohydrate- preferably to 30 carbs daily. That means: no fruit, juices, alcohol, cereal, breads ( unless it is low carb), flour containing foods, starches like rice, pasta or potatoes, nothing containing sugar, etc. See "atkins.com" for a list of the foods allowed. Instead look for: any low carb bread Dreamfield pasta, which is low carb La Banderita or Mission low carb tortillas Eden black soy beans Use Splenda for sweetener Breyer Carbsmart Icecream Ryvita crackers, which are high in fiber They are all readily available in grocery stores. supplements besides garlic: Probiotics and yoghurt for yeast problems Glucosamine Chondrontin for joint pain Vitamin supplements Omega-3 fatty acids Adhering to a low carb diet will improve your overall condition, decrease the pain and improve your stamina. I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if I can share any other info. Have a better day! Else
