Recap of week 22

Lou.....started weight training this week along with walking. Cool Loou.

Walking has been getting into a routine of 3 or 4 days a week. I think she walked 7 miles this week.

Lou will be off line for awhile. Sad. Hope she is back on line soon. We'll miss you.

achinwolf....checked in this week with being able to walk a mile and a half one day.

She is off orals and having a rough time of it.

Hope you are back on orals soon achinwolf or whatever helps you to feel better.

cathy...has been averaging about 20 min a day. Not sure how many days a week she made it this week. But do know she was even trodding through the snow. Hope it was not too deep. Yes. Extra credit for trodding through the snow.

Cathy is looking for her pedometer. I'm thinking about getting one myself too in a few months.

Andie....able to walk one mile this week. But, had the flu this week also so hoping you are up and at em soon. Take care.

KAM...Monday...able to be in the forest in the am and pm for est of 15 min on feet both times.

Tuesday...water therapy...able to do 2 sets of 7 exercises for 2 min and a few strokes of breast, back, side and crawl.

Wednesday...not doing well. But did get outdoors and laid on decking in forest. 5 min est walk to decking.

thursday...10 min to resting rock, but in a fog or dream like state.

Friday....Had my best walk since I started over 5 months ago. Able to walk in further and see more of the trail. ESt 20 min in. Will time it later. Able to laugh while on the trail while I watched Rosie have so much fun and act silly.

Saturday....

TuTu...

Used energy to go shopping this week. Yes. That counts when you have lyme and are low on energy.

Sunday...strolled to Phoenix Tree. 15 min est. Also did a little training with Rosie while walking.

She came to me each time. Much better.

But wore me out. My body felt normal when I started the walk but got heavier and more difficult to move as I headed back to the car.

At least I was not doing the lyme shuffle and able to do a little sit and stay and down and stay training with Rosie near the car.

I am confused....I think I thought Saturday was Sunday. Don't think I walked yesterday.

Today is Monday....right?

If so....walked to the phoenix tree...est 20 min because I took the side trail first and had to walk a dog back to his owner. he wanted to come with Rosie and I.

Kam,

Glad to hear that the training of Rosie is going well. I really think that animals are so good for us when in these situations, so glad she has become a part of your family.

I have a German Shepherd that goes on ALL of my walks with me as well. Great companions.

Must have worn myself out since today I just didn't feel like making the effort. Not sure why I'm so darn tired, but I'm sure it's just a phase. No walking for me today.

Cathy

Cathy. No walking for me on Sunday either.

Did have a good outing in the am in the power chair. Forgot gloves and hands were hurting first part of outing, but it warmed up outside.

Too exhausted this am to walk either. Perhaps later today.

Hi, everyone!

I'm back and determined that I'm going to be back on my schedule. So to start:

Sunday: 1 mile
Monday: 1.5 miles

I'm still swamped at work, but I'm setting my alarm a little earlier. Plus, the pup loves spring mornings and has me up most days at 6.

Good to see everyone!

Andie

Welcome back Andie and GOOD JOB!!!!!

Kam, guess we are on our slumps together. You don't need to struggle just to keep ME company. [Smile]

I'm having some issues with my legs. Wondering if it's coming from lower back pain. Right now I'm on a heating pad and thinking that perhaps the jucuzzi in the bathroom might help with circulation since I don't know what is going on.

Perhaps I'll try that. Hope it's not the levequin, but it really doesn't feel like tendon issues of any sort. Anyone else have this?

Cathy..so many things go wrong with this condition.

Just hoping with rest you will be OK.

Tuesday am. Went to lake in power chair for morning outing. Conserving energy today as I am hoping to go to grocery store later today.

The Good Morning AZ News Channel was there along with all the kids from the elementary school across the street, the day care kids, the high school band, the mayor, vendors representing local businesses, the human society with dogs to adopt, and classic cars.

I learned the AZ news channel is going from town to town and doing live shows at each town.

I was impressed with the vehicles they travel in. The paint job on the RV's and vans and SUV's is well done with scenary and advertising that they are the Channel 3 News.

it was too much goins on for me. I left as soon as I figured out what all the hoopla was about.

Tuesday, April 1st. 5 min in, rested on boulder, 5 min out. I could feel the earth move under my feet and legs were so heavy or something.

I did have a longer outing in the am via the power chair.

And I did go to the grocery store this am via the power chair and the senior van.

And I did water my cacti which takes steps from the sink to the patio with water.

down for the count for the rest of the evening. Body is aching. Brain is lame.

I'm still not back up and running. Doctor has me pulling back on the Levequin, so hopefully that will fix whatever was going haywire with my legs. Guess I still won't know if it was a drug reaction or herx, even as it subsides.

Will be back on the meds in a couple of days after this settles down and hopefully the legs will be working. Weather is getting warmer, so I'm ready to get out there and walk again.

Glad you made your loop Kam. Hope to be doing a loop with you in a day or two.

Me Too Cathy.

Wednesday pm...did the 10 min loop again. STarted out with no pain and the brain not struggling to move the legs.

Thought, oh good. Now I can give Rosie the long workout that she needs and I need as far as being outdoors.

5 min on the trail and the fatigue set in. I was at the crossroads. so, i took the side trail back to the car. Dag gum it.

AT least I was able to be out. It was great listening to the wind in the pines and watching the sun as it set across the forest.

That is all I have done today. The body and brain forced me to rest today.

don't think I would have been able to do the pm walk if I had not taken a couple of excedrin an hour or so earlier. It seeems to help.

Kam,

I love the vision in my mind that "wind in the pines" brings to me.

I'm still feeling a bit gun shy. Not sure if these leg pains are tendon issues brought on by the Levequin or if it's just a regular herx and I should push through it.

I just don't want to risk damage if it's tendon problems. Since the doctors don't seem to know for sure, is there anyone that has had first hand experience with this to know?

Don't think I'll push on the hard walking until my legs settle down. But I'll be here once again, cheering you all on.

Cathy,

Hoping someone will come along who has answers. I just know that waiting it out usually works for me.

Wondering it is because you used your legs more on vacation and they need a rest.

I used my arm to hold my head up while waiting for a meeting instead of lying on the floor. It took 6 months before my arm quit hurting.

Thursday am...able to be in the forest early. Love the smells at that time. Heard some birds singing, but still haven't discovered the time when they are most active.

Went to the resting rock. Need to sit at the very top this am as the sun was only at the top and not at my usual place for me to lean against the rock.

I was not quite awake...in a fog...so I actually did more than I would have if I had been awake.

I was on auto pilot.

Four other cars parked at the entrance but did not see anyone this am. I like feeling like I have the place to myself.

Kam,

Thank you for helping me sort this out in my own head. I suppose it could be from using my legs more than I had been while I was away, but wouldn't it have started acting up during that time or even right after the trip?

Trust me, I really don't know. It could be anything. My only concern is to whether I should keep taking this Levequin or not.

If it's just a herx, I will walk through it, but with all the horror stories out here on cipro and levequin, I also don't want to walk blindly into doing something stupid that I've been warned about.

But yes, I can wait it out...but do I go back on these meds with the two day break as the dr. said or do I question this more since it's not going away?

Thank you for letting me think out loud, Kam. I'm sure I'm worried over nothing since anxiety seems to be my middle name since this illness.

Just with I understood how to tell the difference when even our doctors aren't sure.

In the mean time, can I ride with you in your electric chair? We can have fun. Zoom, Zoom!

First, before I forget:

1 mile for me on Wednesday

Nothing on Tuesday or Thursday.

Cathy, I wish I could help you with your medical situation. Hope you get it figured out and are walking and feeling strong again.

kam,
I love your descriptions of the woods...thank you.

More later. Book group tonight, and I'm exhausted.

Hope you're feeling better soon, kam!!!

Cathy, I would be worried too. Is it sharp pain or what?

Levaquin and cipro caused my sciatic nerve to be worse. I could tell the pain was better when I would stop the meds.

So I finally listened to my body.

Maybe you will be able to tell what the problem is SOON!

Andie,

Glad to hear you are still getting in that milage atleast on Wednesday. I'm not sure what I should be doing since my stamina says "let's walk" but I'm afraid of injury now.

But going to finish up here and take a drive over to the coast and walk over on the beach for awhile. Still snow here, but it will be a change of scenery.

Tutu,

I'm not sure what to be thinking of the Levequin. I'm trying it now at half dose since that's actually what I was doing while on vacation and didn't have ANY problems.

Hopefully getting the med in me even at half dose will be better than not at all. I just want to finish this protocol so I can move on to something not as nerve racking.

Heck, if I'm not herxing, I'm here worried about a drug side effect. When does it ever end? Ugh....but I am going to try to get in some walking time so need to get going.

I know you too are going through a rough time and you too Kam. Aren't we something, here. Ugh.

Cathy

Just got back from approx 1 1/2 mile walk, but really struggled getting back with knee and hip issues. Guess I went a little further than I should have and knew how ever far I walked out, I'd need to walk back.

But I did it and other than some aches and pains, all is good. Wouldn't even bat a lash if I were on anything other than levequin. Ugh.

Cathy, trying the same dosage you took for the trip sounds good.

Hope you are Ok after your walk on the beach.

This illness is so tricky and so many faucets to it.

My friend came from CA to take me to the Lyme Doc appointment in CA.

I did too much while she was here.

As we were driving out of town, I kept getting worse and we had to turn back. Ended up being down for the count all day yesterday, last night and this morning and most likely the rest of today.

But, the biggest part of it has broken. I hope.

But, I did finally get to find the trail head and walk on the trail at the other end of the usual trail I take.

There is no longer water in the wash. We drive on a dirt road for 2 miles and then there is a large parking area on a cliff.

Near the healing ranch or the ranch I like to call the healing ranch.

In the past I could not figure out where the trail went. There is sign on the edge of the cliff pointing towards the cliff.

I saw a couple of other trail markers this time.

Would not have tried this trail myself as you need to climb down a steep hill into the wash and then climb up out of the wash.

Don't trust my legs to make it so was waiting for someone to go with me.

The trial then winds around the side of the cliff about half way up.

My leg did that thing where it just goes out on my at one point which was scary as I was on the side of the cliff and could have been rolling down the cliff side very easily. Just got lucky, I did not.

There was water still in the stream further up the trail.

The boulders were wonderful.

We climbed down into the stream/creek.

I wasn't able to get to it, but my friend was able to check out a small cacti garden growing on the ledge of one of the large boulders.

Just enough dirt for several cacti to take root.

Pretty amazing site.

Beautiful trail. But, not one I would try on my own until I am stronger.

I need to stay on flat trails for the most part for now.

Had what was called the inflamed brain the next day.

I had also did other things...like she helped me vacuum out the car. I vacuumed out one side and she vacummed out the other side.

This was right after the hike.

I don't pay attention to my body when others are around and do too much.

But, it is so nice to have the small pebbles out of the car and dirt now that has been there a year.

I kept waiting until I was strong enough to vacuum it out myself.

We don't have a drive through car wash in town. I can get the outside of the car washed via a drive through but not the inside.

I even need to be careful when I do this as it is too much for me most of the time. Usually only need to use it during the summer.

Mother nature takes care of things the rest of the time.

And I use the backroads to get to it during the summer as usually can not be on the main roads. Need the quiet and less movement of back roads.

Bottom line was to tell you about the new trail I found.

don't have any idea how long we were on it or how far we traveled.

Just know i was over doing it the whole time but took rests and enjoyed being there.

Just didn't like the inflamed brain thing.

Had to cancel lyme doc's appoint and flight back home.

Don't know when I will be able to go to see lyme doc next....possibly fall.

The idea of going via my friend's car is not going to work I dont' think. The road noise and comfort level is not good in her new car.

WE drive her old car around when she is here as she gave me her old car.

It does a good job of supporting my body.

The new car is much better on gas mileage but not a good car if you are sick. Who would have thunk it.

Also made me question whether or not i would have been able to handle the angel flight back home.

Again, the noise and movement most likely would have been too much. I have tried twice before and got sick both times.

Thought I was doing better this time after a year or so and could handle it.

My friend drove me out to the platform area this am so the dogs could run and play and do their buisness.

She drove me right up to it so I could lie down and get some fresh air.

ON the way out, she came very close to going down into the smaller wash.

Luckily, the tries spun out but the other 3 tires pulled the car back on the flat ground.

That was a close one. I was outside of the car at the time.

I had told her to stop which she did as she was close enough to the edge.

But, something happened and instead of going backwards she went forward a little more.

Whewph! tight spot.

Be back later to do a summary as trying to not over ride my brain and listen to it today.

I'll remember that hike for a long time. Looking forward to when I can go on it again. It is nice now that there is still water in the canyon.

Love the sound of the water.

Not sure if it will be there all summer. Guessing not. so many other places are dried up now.

So, I have walked one end of that trail and now the other end. The goal is to walk the middle now...or the whole trail.

perhaps next year.

we could have cars on either end of the trail.

Need to also find out how long the trail is. I have heard different stories.

The sign says one mile, but that might be to the trail crossing. A mile does not sound far at all.

The guy I ran into who walks it said it is about 5 miles and suggested the north trail when you come to the cross roads.
