OK this is kind of a long story-but so worth reading it- I promise.

Yesterday we went to the beach, and trash had been strewn all through the woods, everywhere leading to the beach. I guess raccoons?

We picked it up, and I said I would come back and take it all to the recycling center, since most of it sounded like beer bottles and cans.

I decided to go this morning, before trashmen came, and hit the other beach accesses on the way.

Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that I would have filled up the back of the truck and inside completely with plastic bottles, cans, glass bottles, and cardboard?

It took me 3 hours and I could not beleive the feeling that came over me, a passion that drove me to do this.

I have really not felt well this weekend, but I could not bear the thought of all of this stuff going into a landfill, so I took care of it.

I live on an island, and we have a recycling park here, so the recycling part is pleasant, it is just getting it there.

So.....there was a board meeting this morning on the island, which happens monthly, and there was the Attorney General from GA and senators and legislators.

I decided I wanted to go and speak my mind of what I had seen and done this morning.

I was last to speak, and I did get up and tell everyone what I did. My voice was very shaky and on the verge of tears, I guess it was the Lyme, but I stood my ground.

They asked the Authority manager to stand up, and give a rebuttal to what I said.

He said that all of the trash is sorted at the landfill over at the landfill.

Pardon me, but I did not think they sorted trash at the landfill??? IF they do, then why do we recycle???

Well I said I would continue to do what I did this morning, because I can't stand not to.

I GOT A STANDING OVATION FROM 200 PEOPLE, and many congratulations after I was done and walking out!!!!

I am going to work on getting a group together to help me on Monday mornings, to get all of the stuff out of the trashcans here that can be recycled.

There is only so much I can do myself, but at least I put a small dent in it today!!

I can't beleive me being so sick I did what I did, but I just had to!! I might pay for it though-I always do!

I have been so happy today, and my family so proud-I will be in newspapers and on internet.

PLEASE EVERYONE RECYCLE-WE ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT CAN SAVE THIS EARTH! GOD SAID FOR US TO BE STEWARDS OF THE EARTH!

Thanks for listening to my story!

Great to see you back BettyG!

Man I am paying for all that activity yesterday-my body is saying "What in the world were you thinking?".

I have found out from other residents that our regular trash here is taken to the landfill and it is not sorted through!

How can somebody stand up in front of so many people and tell a blatant lie???? He looked so perturbed at me-like where did I come from-he wasn't expecting it at all!

So, beleive me I am their worst nightmare now, and am anxiously waiting for the next meeting.

I am going to be prepared next time too, it won't be something done at the last minute! I have got my speech ready already.

Yesterday I had to rush home and get a shower because I smelled soooooooo bad!!!

The back of the truck reeks too, so I am planning on spraying it out today with water hose.

Here is my personal trash story that I started telling everyone yesterday-

I take my recycling bin once a week-I push out the regular trash once a month! The bin is the same size as trash can, so literally almost everything is recycled.

The only reason I put trash can out is that it starts to smell so bad because of meat wrappers, etc.

Thanks for all of the replies, and please recycle if at all possible.

Love, Astria

That's great, astria!!! So what gives... do they or do they NOT sort trash at the landfill? I would doubt as you did that they DO.

Please take care of YOU too!

I am doing research on the sorting issue, and have fueled ALOT of interest.

There is no way the landfill is sorting through our regular trash here.

If they would just put up bins at the beach for recycled stuff, that is all I want!

We will see, and I am getting people together to help me get all of the stuff sorted in the mean time.

Thanks
Astria
