I have a headache.
Lyme Brain + Tax Time
Ugh.
I have medical receipts online, in boxes, in accordion files, in purses, closets, rubbermaid containers.
Just realized how much money I donated to animal shelter charities last year. (Mom-hope you're not reading this...blame it on bartonella impulsiveness)
Ugh.
Haven't even got to the tax part of it.
There has to be an easier way to keep papers in one spot!
Accordion files aren't big enough.
What do you guys use to keep it sorted?
Every year I tell myself to put it in an excel spreedsheet but then I get lazy.

I'm the same way .. drives me insane not to have it on a spreadsheet online. I really should do that, but probably never will!!
I have a big filing cabinet and it's all there. I do have to clean off my desk when it's time for taxes though! There are always things that I didn't file.
Greta, at least donations are tax-deductible! I hope you give to "people" charities too!
When I get rich I'm going to buy one of those scanner things that files it for you.

I buy one of those plastic file boxes at Walmart and all year long any receipt for taxes goes into the box.
Still have to sort it all out when tax time comes but everything is in there including supplement receipts.
Me too Lymetoo. Those Neat scanners look like they would make life a lot easier. Expensive though.

Spreadsheet online but i print it out too
Ring binders
Deductible receits start out in plastic file box with 12 sections for months...but get recorded on spread sheet then put in ring binder
Its hard and complicated...but hopefully will be less complicated when i only own one house and have no credit cards

Use QuickBooks or Quicken or some such software. Of course, that means that you enter it!
But for all your credit card charges, you can just download them into the software. The same for your online banking, too. I do almost everything via credit card anyway.
But this year I am in a mess, as I switched to Quickbooks, but never figured it out (it's double-entry method---huh? So never downloaded or entered (couldn't go back to Quicken, as I got a new computer a year ago.
Arghh! It's going to be a big, fat mess! I need to hire someone to help me (I have a private practice---such as it is these days).

Tax pain is over for one more year.
Whew.
But when revenue Canada says keep your receipts for seven years, I'm going to need a bigger apartment just for the medical receipts at the rate I'm going. 2014 has filled up 2 manilla envelopes already.

I am totally frustrated with it all. I used to be an organized person before all of this.
Now medical bills are everywhere. Owe lots of money that I wouldn't have if I had managed it.
It sucks. Some days I can figure it out then other days I sit and stare at the numbers and can't seem to add.
I have thrown my hands up and figure I will file bankruptcy at some point to just make it all go away.
