The below is a letter I received in my snail mail yesterday....

To all members of the fibro community,

It's no secret that for years, insurance companies have made a regular practive of refusing to pay fibro sufferer' their DISABILITY benefits. They might have DENIED YOUR CLAIM by stating there was no objective evidence causing your symptoms, or by claiming that your inability to work was the result of a mental or nervous condition and not the fibro. Sometimes they would even go so far as to help you get SSDisabilty benefits, then after taking your retroactive payment, turn around and refuse to provide any additional benefits.

Now their past has finally caught up with them.

Unum Provident, the national largest diability insurer, has been under intense investigation by numerous state & federal agencies. As a result, they have been pressured into a settlement that will require uNUM to reconsider over 200,000 claims that were WRONGFULLY DENIED OR TERMINED dating back to 1997. All estimates indicate that the resulting damages will be in excess of $100 million.

While some of the claimants will be contacted by the insurance company via mail, many will receive no notice at all. Furthermore, those that do get contacted by Unum may not fully understand their rights or the significance of the notice. Since there is only a short period of time, 60 days, for insureds to initiate the reopening of their claims, it is imperative that they do so immediately.

If you or someone you know had a LONG TERM DISABILITY claim denied or termined by Unum or one of its subsidiaries,

call KANTOR & KANTOR at 877.783.8686 for a FREE consultantion and an explanation of your rights.

We work on 100% contingency fee basis, which means you will NEVER, under any circumstances, by asked to pay us a fee out of your own pocket. We only get paid if you win.

The attorneys at Kantor & Kantor have been filing for disabled individuals for decades, and now they are ready to fight for you.

Remember when Unum did to you when you filed your on your own...DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE TWICE! Call us at above number or contact us on the web at www.DenidedByUnum.com.
======================

Sincerely, Glenn R. Kantor

*Provident Life and Accident Insurance Co., Unum Life Insur. Co. of America, the Paul Revere Life Insir. Co., First Unum Life Insur. Co., Provident Life & Casulaty Insur. Co.

ps...please forgive all the typos; will try to correct a few! Fingers not cooperating today.

Bettyg, Iowa

PS - interesting since I was never involved in LTD with unum! Typed here only for YOUR benefit if you filed LTD....

Betty,

I googled their website and another site:
http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:b9167s3OzK0J:www.kantorlaw.net/+%22Kantor+%26+Kantor%22&hl=en&client=safari
http://fmaware.org/fmOnlineNewsletter/2005/vol5_no4/article_suit.htm

Try googling--I found a bunch. It might not hurt to call but I wouldn't give them any information--do you know an attorney who could check it out?

Lawyers love class-action lawsuits--but if you never had " LONG TERM DISABILITY claim denied or termined by Unum or one of its subsidiaries" then it's just a good read.

Wouldn't it be cool if you got a chunk of change?
