Do any of you know anything about Vouchered Housing? Any leads?
(I am eligible both by income and disability but am under 62 which narrows my options in this state.)
Do you know of any places or states near you that don't have exceedingly long waiting lists or where one could at least get on a list?
(I have been trying to get on a list for 9 years. They open for about one day a year and no one knows when. If I were able to get on a list the wait would be 4-5 years.)
Thanks

TBF,
Wanna move to Nebraska???
We have them,,,and I dont think too long of wait,,,if at all. I know of one high rise, nice place,,maybe we can live on adjoining floors???
They are always looking for a 'handyman' to help them out!!
probably better luck in YOUR area is to find out, first thing, where a new one is proposed and get in the first day!!!(on the list)
Are they building any more new ones,,,check with your city offices housing division,,,they SHOULD know!!but then again I remain--just don--

Thanks Don,
I have been checking here for 9 years. There's nothing and nothing planned. All that's being planned and built here are banks, medical buildings and townhouses starting at $250,000. Pffffft...
Apparently, the voucher program is federally funded and has not recieved any new funding since the 1980's.
Nebraska it might be; I surely I could do way worse for a neighbor. Thanks.

It's awful everywhere. Sometimes it varies by locality. I know in Massachusetts, certain cities had much longer wait lists. But you had to be a resident and remain a resident of a city to be on the waitlist.
Maybe you can try contacting some nat'l advocacy groups and asking for leads

Blue, Any progress with your friend who has the empty efficiency apartment?
I know you just love living with your mom. And with you being in pain all the time, I don't know how you stay so good humored.
Don't worry, it's not hopeless, it only looks that way.

Yeah, that's the impression I got, as well, Aniek. I know I tried NY and NJ while I was up there last year. Things were also getting cut more and more. Thank you for the links! (you never know what I might stumble upon)
(I posted this the other day after getting off the phone with a private housing authority that did take an application from me 3 years ago. They pretty much made it clear it would never happen with me being under 62, I got a ways 'til then. They told me they have a certain number of apts for disabled/mobility impaired under that age but their residents get first crack as they need them so in essence they are never available. I scoured the HUD website and called as many as I could and the Coalition for Independent Living.)
Thanks, Carol, for at least attempting to portray me as good humored, hahahaha! I'm still a long way off from getting the place possibly available ready to be livable. I don't know when or if it'll ever happen.

I know I can always move in with you, no?

Blue,
I think I asked once and never got an answer about the status of the cottage or what ever you called it,the home out back of somebodies home, like a guest house I guess. Whats the status of that??
E-mail me with present status,,,and how far THAT is from Miami. Also is there any major repairs needed before occupying same??
Can you financially handle it okay?? Is it a go,as soon as YOU are prepared?? Or are other arrangements necessary??
Is your mom going to be alright 'without' your 24/7 care and attention??
I have an idea that just might work!! lets give it a roll and see what comes up!!
Did I say something 'wrong' a while back??? Suddenly I get no talk from you!! Is that a 'COLD' shoulder I feel??? Just wondering because I am slow and --just don--

Hi Don, no I'm not cold shouldering you at all. I was perfectly willing to be next door neighbors, see above.
This was about the little house thing (ok, it was buried in my gibberish response above.

Anyway, I'm still trying to get the darned thing cleaned out enough to start doing anything else with it. Lots of junk in there.
I tried to put a cabinet up on top of the fridge last night and realized I can't do the physical things I thought. Kinda scared me.
I'll email you shortly and... Don... thanks
