Please humor me .. I'll move it to GS when I get the answer I need... thank you for your help!!!
My husband will be out in the blazing heat tomorrow playing in a Big Band. The temp will be at least 100 degrees with heat index around 105-110 .. so I'm a bit worried!! He will be in the sun for about 2 hours or more.
I know he should hydrate before, during and after... but what about ingesting extra salt?
Before, during and after?? or only after??
thanks!!!

I know gatorade has sugar but it has a good amount of salt in it that helps hydration. While coconut water contains electrolytes it doesn't contain salt. I would say lots of water and a gatorade or two
Oh, and before, during and after would be best!

Sea salt if possible, water and gatorade is a good start. Also a bannana for potassium, and he should be playing like a cat on a hot tin roof.

Hey, I love salty peanuts and chips. Whatever works. My favorite excuse to eat ice cream is to say it helps me when I have a headache...

Glad he came out of his gig in one peace, and he didn't become dehydrated!. Did he play with a big band as in large size, or was it a Big Band sound as in Tommy Dorsey?

This is a group of musicians who mentor youngsters in the art of jazz. They play Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Stan Kenton, and other jazz charts.
They have members from ages 13 to 84!! I was worried about the oldsters for sure!!
There are about 40 members, but only about 20+ played on Saturday.

That's VERY cool that they mentor young people. I love the era of Big Band. Don't know if your husband remembers Ziggy Elmond, but he was a cousin who played with one of the Big Bands.
Can't remember which one. My mothers side of the family were Chicago people.
