My mom told me that a "top lyme expert" was on Kelly Ripa yesterday and said that it takes at least 36 hours for an infected tick to transmit bacteria. I told her that was inaccurate (I double checked on ILADS to make sure I had the facts straight).
Does anyone know of Dr. Y in New York, who is the doctor my mom was referring to in KellyRipa yesterday? If you google Kelly Ripa June 27, 2016 tv show, it will bring up information about the guests on the show for this week. However, I don't want to provide the direct link in case this doctor is a LLMD, although knowing he said that makes me doubt it.
I can't find a link to watch yesterday's show. **Does anyone have the link? **Thank you.

- me,
thanks for the heads up about this. Hope you find the link.
So glad you knew the truth first and also new where to confirm it.
So sad to hear they are still telling the world myths.
To anyone new here: "it takes at least 36 hours for an infected tick to transmit bacteria" (end quote / myth)
"me" is correct. That is not true. Not true at all. There is no time limit in which a tick attachment is guaranteed to be free of disease transmitting ability. As soon as the skin is broken, disease can be transmitted, if the tick is infected.
And, that stands for all the infections ticks carry. -

- "me" - it will be fine to provide the direct link. Anytime any doctor, LLMD or otherwise has a TV appearance, it's good to share the link. I doubt it was a LLMD, though, as I cannot imagine any who would still believe that. -

I saw it and the idiot doc and just thought to myself, yet another bad interview with incorrect info. Sorry, can't remember the doc's name since the doc was useless.

If there's any way folks could communicate with that show to let them know people can get infected immediately if infections are in tick saliva, please do! Plus referrals to the best Lyme orgs -

Great idea to contact the show, Robin123! I took your idea and ran with it and submitted an online letter to the show. 5 minutes.
**If many of us could comment on the show, maybe they would do a follow up segment. However, we would probably need a lot of people to do this in order for a follow up show to be accomplished. **
This is what I wrote. Feel free to use any info and adapt this letter if you want.
Dear Ms. Ripa,
Thank you for doing a segment about Lyme Disease with Dr. Yapalater. As a Lyme sufferer, I am grateful that Lyme disease is getting more attention in the media since we are in desperate need of changes in order to get proper treatment.
However, there was inaccurate information on this show with Dr. Yapalater. For example, he said it takes 36 hours for an infected tick to transmit diseases. In fact, an infected tick can transmit devestating diseases in less than 24 hours:
Another factor that is imperative for viewers to know about is the Lyme disease controversy. Unfortunately, there is a plethora of misinformation that does a lot of harm to the Lyme community which has far reaching ramifications that harm Lyme patients in many ways. For basic information regarding Lyme controversy, please see the following:
In general, Lyme sufferers believe in the ILADS approach.
Also, it would be amazing if Lyme sufferers were interviewed. Two recent interviews that many in the Lyme community found encouraging are the following:
It would be amazing if you could do a segment that highlights the ILADS approach or the controversy surrounding treatment that includes Lyme sufferers.
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you.
