Financially, I am not sure how I could fit this in my budget right now....
But, who knows. By the time it is time to go....I just might be able to afford it.
so, please keep me in mind.
I would most likely be taking Amtrak if anyone one from the west coast is interested in joining me.
you know: a big frothy mug of Lime Coke and a scoop of Lime flavored sherbert.
hey, there you go a lime float!!! I did it!!!

I was talking to someone the other day about the possibility of us all getting together for the Lyme float, and she had no idea what I was talking about.
So I started a new thread titled..
LymeNet reunion in Arkansas ( or something like that) with a link to this thread. ( hope you don't mind)
This way maybe we can get more people interested in getting together.
I hope we can get a lot of people to come, as It sounds like such a good time.
Let us know when you guys come up with a date.....
I hope I can make it, I'd love to meet all of you
~Missy
(I can say that now because all of my recent Costa buddies are still gone and can't tell you otherwise
)
This looks so beautiful...and Arkansas is a magnificent state!
My only request...if I get one...is that it isn't in the hottest part of the summer!
(oops...I'm already causing trouble, huh?)

The whole camping thing would be a bit of an arm twist with Kelly so put her on your prayer lists NOW about this. May be forced to rent a scamper but things could be worse. Kids would have to come too. How about them???
This could be a great way of detering a trip to NY I have no desire to go back there but we are in serious need of a vacation as a family.
Keep me in the loop

PS I'll still bring the sherbert and lyme coke
Sent, I think it'd be nice if everybody could be somewhat in the same area, of course kids are fine. A lot of us I'm guessing will have travel trailers, tent camping is not me.
I like watching this topic take on a life of it's own. This all started when Jenny and I met MADDOG for a week last year at seneca Rock WVa. We'd been talking about doing something like this for years I think. It was a hoot.
Now we just want to do it again and invite everybody. And MADDOG came up with Buffalo River which is pretty centrally located. A lot of us in the mid part of the country never get to meet any of the others because most everything goes on in the NE as far as get-togethers.
Of course we want the northeasterners to come too.
This is all in the planning stages, so input please.
So, while you're praying that Sent's wife relents, put Sweetheart on your prayer list too -- 'cause it would take a minor miracle to get her to agree to make herself known in person to other Lymies. Long story why not, but I keeping hoping that someday she might relent on this issue and be ready to "go public".
Wouldn't it be fantastic is something like this outdoor camping party nudged her into joining in? That photo is just Sooo beautiful.
Just wanted to add that if you go to the website I posted ( the post with the picture) there is a place where you can request information.
I have received about 10 different brochures in the mail, and some of them look promising.
I have also just ordered a trip tick from AAA and will let you know if I come up with anything.
P.S. Are you the Charlie from over in off topic that Meg and I wanted to go motorcycling with??? If so, I plan on towing my motorcycle behind our truck, so maybe we can hook up and go for a ride.

I think the more the merrier, I plan on bringing my kiddies too
It'd be great to meet all of you
~Missy
You can get in a good canoe trip, but, expect to paddle. But, as fas as temp is concerned, it's nice in the Summer around the Buffalo.
Paddling would be difficult for me, as would be getting wet with my Hickman
I'm also prone to heat exhaustion.
BUT, I still want to go!!! Maybe cheer from the sidelines??? With cold drinks for all?

I have been looking through my AAA books and found an interesting place to stay...it can accommodate those who want to camp in tents, RV's and has rustic and deluxe cabins. Plus it's right on the river... it may be worth looking into...
Here is the link and a picture:

And here is a cool picture of a camp site right on the river

Melanie, I 'spect this trip will go on in the summer but it's cool in the mtns. When we camped last year in late July in WVa we had to use heaters at nite a few times.
We'll have to plan around MADDOG"s vacation time and people with kids will need to wait till they're out of school.
I percieve something pretty un structured, just a meet-up for everybody and a laid back fun time.
Charlie
it doesn't take much convincing to get me to a party!
Can't wait!!!
Love, M

Sounds PERFECT!!!!! Just what I need
I thought you were the same Charlie
.. I was looking through my AAA book and it looks like there are some beautiful places to go motorcycling... I think I'll bring mine if I can borrow a trailer
I also wanted to note that while the river does have high waters in spring...that the Lower Buffalo can be floated year round, even when water levels are lower in the summer.
I think mid summer would be perfect, this way, we wouldn't freeze at night and those of us with kid who are in school, can come as well.
Just my 2 cents..
~Missy
The third is a Tuesday so anywhere around there would do. I'll be ripe old age of 38.
We were just looking at motorcycles this morning too so if we do get one we would have to bring it.
The more I think about this the better it sounds.

This is my first post in General, sorry for being a smart*ss.
I live in Arkansas, less than an hour and a half away from the Buffalo. I live on another river called the Kings River and until recently owned a small resort here, so I know a bit about the area and its tourism.
I have no idea if I will be well enough to make this gathering but I would love to. I've just started using Ozone Therapy and feel very hopeful.
Here are some thoughts for you to chew on...
- Holiday weekends are VERY crowded on the rivers. Huge crowds, lots of drinking, loud music, etc. Not the peaceful getaway you might be imagining.
- Although we are in the mountains, they are ancient worn down mountains, only a couple of thousand feet in altitude. Temperatures in August can break 100 with high humidity and it likely will not be cool in the evenings. I recommend June when the evenings are cool and the daytimes comfortably warm AND the wildflowers are still awesome.
- The further into summer you go, the more insect activity. Hmm, should I say more about this? Please forgive me for bringing this up but: Arkansas would be heaven IF we didn't have ticks and chiggers (aka redbugs). YOu will need to prepare for that.
The river is more likely to be floatable in June, although there is the possiblity of it being too high. The river level in August is just too low for floating, hanging out on the bank and playing in the water is fun though. For those that like to fish, spring and early summer is much better.
I sure hope this doesn't discourage anyone. I just want you to have the facts so you can properly prepare. The area is beautiful; clean clear water, sheer bluffs, clean air, a rolling carpet of green mountains for miles and friendly natives who will go out of their way to help a stranger.
Please keep me up on your plans, if I feel up to it I would love to join you. If there is anything I can do to help (nothing strenuous) let me know.

Unfortunately, families with school aged kiddoes won't be able to come during May, nor will anyone who's taking college courses either. My husband will still be grading exams that week, I imagine. I'm not sure when graduation week is this semester, but it's usually in the first part of May for the universities in our state.
Thanks for posting the links. I haven't taken time yet to study all of the info there, but do you know if they have any cabins to rent? Or is it possible to rent any of the campers that you can tow, maybe? I'm asking because we haven't reached that stage of our lives yet where we are ready to do the vagabond camping treks, so we aren't really into all of this.
Our days of tent camping are long past, too. So, we'll have to remember how to strike a match and buil a teepee of tender wood, if we want to eat anything warm.
Reckon there's any "fast food" nearby, in case we get tired of living out of an ice chest?
I clicked on a few things on that one website, but I didn't find what I needed to know -- so it's easier just to ask, since there are so many knowledgeable folks around here at LymeNet who can give such good, helpful answers.
PS - If you decide you want to do it in June, in order to include more folks with families, don't worry about little old moi. It's only about a 50/50 chance that my husband will actually go through with this conference venture of his in China in June anyway. I'm campaigning heavily against that idea, based on our previous experiences in India 10 years ago.
Charlie
With my annual Family Reunion and my mother having to go as she is the oldest one left and we have to take her.
Then, with my wedding coming up at the end of June and all, I'll be lucky to just get through it cause I'll still be in recovery from my repaired rotator cuff.
BUT, you guys enjoy what I've known all my life, that Arkansas is a beautiful state with many wonders and opportunities. Remember, be sure and take the sunscreen and watch out for that TREE!!!
Rosemary
There's a great place to stay on the River there called Jack's place, or is it Jake's Place, I forget.
But, it's just a thought and maybe we can all get together next year.
Love you guys,
Rosemary

I already have the feeling that this is going to be such a popular affair that it's going to turn into being an annual event. See ya next year, Mrs. (Rosemary) Chip.
They didn't have anywhere to indicate that you would be arriving in a U-Haul trailer, so I fibbed and checked off the "pop-up camper" option instead. I hope they'll let me in this way. Maybe I'll have to camouflage it or something, in hopes the Park Rangers don't notice the difference.
PS - My husband says he's leaving for China on June 10 -- WITHOUT me!! I told him, fine, that he's still welcome to come to Arkansas with us instead, if he changes his mind.
Sweetheart seems enthusiastic -- but isn't convinced that I could ever manage to do anything right on the computer and that our reservations will undoubtedly be messed up if it depends on me to get something like that right on the first try. (True, I almost timed out before I managed to get it accomplished.)

I blame myself I made a boo boo in the check book. I got a $10.00 rebate check and wrote $100.00. Never trust the handwriting of a lymie!! So Mr Sent is in the doghouse right now.
Still looking forward to a trip like this though! Ah to see even a hill again!! this filled in swamp nonsence, I'm over it!! Keep your palm trees and give me an evergreen on a tall mountain peak with a stream/river full of trout!!!

I'm still working on the details. The kids in our town, don't get out of school unit June 20th. But as I homeschool for the most part, it shouldn't be a problem.
My husband is a teacher at a vocational college and he is going to check to see if the trip can work around finals and graduation.
So I'll check back in a few days...
Hope to see you all
~Missy
I couldn't do it myself, but for those who could, I highly recommend it.
There's something that happens in person that one doesn't realize is missing online...
It's really wonderful to be face to face with other people sharing your experince.
At the 2000 lobby, I met many people I'd spoken to (but never saw) for the first time.
It was really something to be in the company of 300+ other people who are all working on the same goal; I can't really describe the feeling, but I highly recommend it.
Sincerely,
Regina
I can't believe I haven't even finished unpacking from the last trip...
And here I go again!
Count me in!! Buffalo River.. here I come!
I can't wait! Yippeeeeeeeeee!!!!
By the way... they don't speak Spanish there do they?
Ahhhhhhh!!!!!
Just "mountain-esse" I reckon.
I don't have an RV... not one able to be moved anyhow.. and I don't have.. nor do I WANT a tent... too confining for me.
But.. I DO have a canoe... and I could sleep in it... eh? Or under it... ya think?
I have been known to sleep in stranger places... but don't tell anyone... ok?
This sounds REAL fun. And I finally get to see my favorite Fish face and his lovely lady.. and my good buddy, Maddog.
This will be GREAT!
Thanks for inviting me. Or shall I say.. thanks for inviting everyone... and not saying "everyone BUT Tincup!"

PS- How about we dress up the vehicles for the party? Maybe we could use a "Lyme-mobile" theme to promote awareness??
And chiggers, eh? OK... I can do chiggers! I know it is unlawful to feed the wildlife in a park.. but what the hay... chiggers have at me. hehehe

It's a jungle out there kiddies,
Have a very fruitful day!
The Golden Access Passport provided by the National Park System, is free to those who apply for it.. and those who have the passport.. it allows free entrance to National Parks and 50 percent off for user fees... like campground fees.
Here is the section quoting the info from the page at the site that says.. "Accessibility".
"Golden Access Passport
The Golden Access Passport, free to any U.S. citizen who is permanently disabled, may be obtained in person at any contact station by showing proof of medically determined permanent disability or eligibility for receiving benefits under federal law.
The passport provides free lifetime entrance to federally administered land management areas and a fifty-percent discount on user fees charged by these agencies.
The brochure "Federal Recreation Passport Program" explains the benefits of becoming a Golden Access holder. That brochure is available at Park Headquarters and at all contact stations."
This may allow some folks who are disabled to come who are also limited in $$.
Hope it helps!

Darn it anyhow, Memorial weekend we are getting together for Cruiserfest with 600 other PT Cruisers.
I think I would have been able to convince him to drive to Arkansas, we have so much family back there. This sounds like so much fun. Well you guys have a great time and keep us in mind if the date changes.

But if there's any way you can come, the more the merrier.
I want to keep these threads near the top, I know there are some folks close by that may miss out if we don't.
Charlie
I"m bummed..was getting psyched to meet all you guys..I thought it was going to be summer ????
Lisa
That sounds like a great idea!
Maybe we could add New Hampshire's "White Mountain National Forest", to the Lyme Float some year. It's truly spectacular place
And it's in my back yard
I'm Still working out the details of the trip, I'm not sure if the hubby can get the time off due to his classes, but we're trying
~LymeBrat
I considered the trip this year untill it dawned on me that is the time of my daughter's wedding. I dont think I better miss that one.
Have I ever told you about it? I have never been and probably never will be at another wedding like this one. They are trying to hold the guest list DOWN to 850-900 people. Of which a darn few will be from my side of the family. So if any one is willing , I could use a 'few' friends that day. HA Ha
And my checkbook will need artifical recssitation directly afterward also!!! d;-)
I think they are going to party all night by the sounds of it, without me, of course. I cant do that at all, anymore.
I am just hoping to get thru it myself and get my 'work' done.
Wish it was a week later(Lyme float) But youall have a great time, hear?
--just don--
I have to work all summer and my play time is in the winter.....I hope that someone takes lots of pictures for us folks that can't make the fun.....pretty pleeeese?
