Anyone here had thier taste buds go dead after a few weeks of Rocephin? I can't figure out if this is another neurological symptom caused by the new CNS lesion found on my upper cervical spine (MS lesion) or is a side affect of the ABX. I'm one of those rare persons who has both Lyme and MS, but I'm thinking this may be a side affect of the Rocephin. Not sure. The leision is in an area of my spinal chord that my nervous system could be affected anywhere.

I have advanced neuro-Lyme. I periodically loose my sense of taste as part of a herx reaction. I never had it happen with Rocephin, but at the time, I feel the Rocephin was totally ineffective for me as a case of Babesia I had was not being addressed. Now that the Babesia is under control, I always lose my sense of taste while on Minocin. Minocin is one of the good ones for pentration of the blood-brain barrier. So, makes sense to me that is what is happening. I am pulsing on and off Minocin, as it kicks my butt. But has been very effective overall for the neuro and cognitive symptoms.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for your answer.
So, you are saying that the ABX drugs themselves do not cause taste loss.
But, if I understand you correctly, you are saying a herxhimer reaction from the ABX drugs could cause taste loss - right?
So, how long should a herx last?
MS can affect taste buds also.
I developed this and other new neurological symptoms that I never had before after being on the IV ABX for 4 weeks. (4 more to go)I still have these symptoms.
My MRI showed a new C3 lesion. (Upper cervical spine where it meets the bottom of the brain.)Don't know yet if the new lesion was caused by a herx or if it is a new MS lesion. Either way a new CNS lesion is bad because it can cause permanent damage.
Going to see a specialist in both MS and CNS lyme to help detirmine this.

I have had Lyme for the last 3 years.
Lost my sense of taste as part of a herx on other abx, but I'm now into my 6th week on IV Rocephin and it has not caused me to lose my sense of taste.
Don't know if this helps or not, but that's my experience.
Best wishes, Nancy

Nancy- Thank you. Your experience does have meaning. Here is what I think now.
My taste loss is being caused by either a herx reaction or the new CNS lesion.
ABX would not mess my taste up.

Question: Have you been on ABX of various sorts for 3 years steady? Or off and on. Curious.

I temporarily lost my sense of taste on Rocephin - but it came back. Took a while, though. Worse though was that what replaced it was a bad sort of metallic taste. All better now!
