Several people have had unwanted contacts to themselves or others (Scott most recently). We definitely have trolls reading this forum, so be careful about making it easy for them to find you and cause trouble.

As a former licensed private investigator I can certainly tell you about how easy it is for someone to find you if they want to That's what I was paid to do but did watch out for stalker type clients.

I wouldn't want to scare anyone but even I am too easy using my own information. Luckily there are several people with my name in my city and I don't list my address with my phone number.

Everyone should always be careful using the internet.

I have to admit that I am also curious as to who "they" are though just to watch out.

If someone wants to find you, they WILL find you. I think it's a good idea not to put your real name and city/town/address out there on internet forums, mainly to avoid possible hassle. The question is, do they have a reason to want to find you, and why, unless you're acting in a provocative fashion that might trigger someone to want to go after you in "real life" (as in road rage, etc)?

Would someone on the internet be more likely to want to stalk you, etc, than in real life? i..e you can be followed from the store/supermarket/wherever and stalked, threatened.

And, if someone does intrude or threaten you it would/should be dealt with in the same manner you would even if "they" didn't find you over the internet - i.e. call the authorities.

Is the DANGER of the internet greater than the DANGER of real-life stalkers/threats? That is what I wonder about. I wonder if the whole cyberspace danger is over-rated or under-rated.

Dll

I was talking about actual cases here on Lymenet, not the abstract danger of the internet in general. The people involved could tell you more about what happened to them, if they wanted to.

I would not put it past Eddie either.

I would also ask Eddie but don't know this person.

I have been contacted by people (by e-mail and IM but not in a threatening way at all, in a supportive way). That's what this is about, support isn't it?

I certainly wouldn't give my address and phone number to strangers but I'm wondering if these people just received unwarranted contact via internet access or was there some kind of real threat or harrassment?

My mom tried to join a support group for families and friends of lymies but they asked for so much info it almost scared her off and she felt unwelcome. It was supposed to do with legislation and regulation relating to postings.

I know these are kind of two different subjects but may be related???

Would anyone like to expain with more specific information?

Amanda
