I will probably get some angry replies because I mention this name here but anyway:

Michael Moore is working on a new documentation movie called "Sicko" about the American health system. I don't know exactly what he is planning.

Do you think that there is anything he could do in this new project to improve the situation of Lymies? If yes, it could give our case a gigantic worldwide publicity.

Someone any ideas?

Just wondering if this might be an opportunity.

That's a good idea with lots of coverage if he were involved.

Roseamry

Don't have an answer as to how, though.

In an interview during the Democratic Convention Micheal Moore mentioned he wanted to expose managed care next. He could be a big help to Lyme patients and their families.

As I'm a foreigner and have no insight in your health system and your specific problems I cannot be of help.

But I noticed that there is quite a number of politically active lymies on this board. Michael Moore is welcoming ideas by email (check out his website).

Could any of you get in touch with him and check out if the situation of lymies in the U.S. could fit in his new project?

What are your specific problems? If Moore would be German I would ask him to check into why the German Health Ministry is keeping such a low profile on Lyme Disease. Why are there no efforts to educate doctors?

And in the U.S.: Why is the Bowen Test not officially recognized? Why do LLMDs get in trouble with authorities? There are so many Why's!

This could be our historical chance! We should at least ask.

His website is www.michaelmoore.com if you want to email him with your question.

this is from his website....i think if everyone sends him an e-mail then it just might work

Contacting Michael
If you have something you want to tell Michael directly, contact him at: [email protected]. Michael gets thousands of emails and does his best to personally answer as many of them as possible. Occasionally his email box "overflows" and you may get an error when trying to contact him. Please be patient and try sending your message to Michael again at a later date.

As I said, as a foreigner I don't feel that I'm the right person to do this. I don't have the background.

I'm also afraid that if he is getting too many emails this would just put him off. Is there nobody from a Lyme organisation on this board? I think there is but I don't remember the names. This would give the whole thing a bit of a professional touch.

It would be great if one of these people who have a lot of information and knowledge of the subject could contact him - on behalf of whoever of us who wants to join.

Well, if his website says, Michael gets thousands of emails and does his best to personally answer as many of them as possible. Occasionally his email box "overflows" and you may get an error when trying to contact him. Please be patient and try sending your message to Michael again at a later date.

Then, I would think the more sent the greater the chance he will see the plight of Lyme Disease patients.

IMO, the more sent to him the better, not less.

That's a very sad (but unfortunately true) comment about our "free" country

Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention. In my opinion, his work is billiant and since he is not afraid of controversial subjects, he just may be interested in what we have to say.

(he may even be aware of the Plum Island info already...seems right up his alley)

I agree with Rosemary, the more emails the better!!!

Okay, so, how can this be tackled then?

Unfortunately, I didn't choose a good title for this post and so it isn't getting much attention.

I think there should be kind of a guideline as to what should be the contents of these emails. For this, we need the help of experienced activists on this board.

Can anybody help?

I am not a big fan of his on the political agenda, but maybe he could do something good for a change and help us lymies and future lymies.

Let me see if I can help, look over in medical. ~ Amanda

Hi Amanda,

thank's a lot for your help.

Good idea to start a new thread and move it to medical.

Curious to see what will happen.

Me too!

It seems to me that many on this board do not check General and like you said maybe the topic was not an attention grabber.

My hubby gets on a bike site that shows how many have viewed your topic along with the number of replies. I like that.
I try to keep my topics in the right place, but do not always seem to be able to, or I may want more replies and post to Medical.

Let's see what happens, and I will do my best to email him too.

My opinion of michele Moore set aside.

Im gonna play devils advocate here.
I am for anything that will help us with our cause.

However i also feel we need to be cautious who we choose to represent us. Given Micheles reputation (i wont elaborate further) It very well could back fire on us to be labeled with him. Or cause our situation to be less than Important.

Just something to think about.

oohh...yes, that is very true graneet. I have not emailed him yet. Still thinking and will have to have some "quiet time" to do it.
Thanks for you thought on the matter.

I sent him an email but wish I hadn't now. I recently have run across stories of how he has slanted things to fit his perspective.

His credibility is gone with me. The jury was out with me on him until recently.

I feel that this could go the other way with him. He could attack our lyme specialists and make matters worse.

Posted by LabRat (Member # 78) on :

Well, I wasn't going to say anything but I think it would be a big mistake. I haven't checked any of moore's facts, (nor do I intend to), how's that for ignorance and indifference! He's making a lot of money and there's a lot of people that feel like he makes things a little more interesting than they really are, if you catch my drift. O Riley is doing an expos on him tonight. He could say something on our behalf and have everyone in the world come down on us!

Looks like he's crawling in bed with the Dems. Remember when Hillary (spelling) wanted to stick everybody in an HMO and prohibit any doctor from private practice.

I wouldn't help this guy make any more money than he has made already.

To our German friend and others...I am afraid of what Michael Moore might do to our cause. It will definitely be grossly portrayed, and I agree with others, it might backfire and hurt our drs

With a title of Sicko, that doesn't sound very much like a documentary to help anyone.

It would be the greatest thing possible if we could trust him and his intentions..But I am a Democrat, on paper, and am afraid to have him do this.

We need someone in his position, perhaps that we can trust to do the story. Sorry, maybe not want you want to hear since we are all so desperate..

I also want to compliment those who come up with the ideas to do these things. Its because of those of you who are so bold who help the lyme cause and i personally want to thank you.

CAUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no opinion on Mr. Moore and his ability to help us..(I am a Democrat..but Lyme is BIPARTISAN!!!)

BUT..I do know we need to be REALLY careful as to who we "find" to "break the story wide open"..

I think we have to think very carefully about that, and I think caution at this stage in the game is very, very necessary.

If someone with the capabilities of wide release exposure puts the "wrong" spin on things, that could be very detrimental to us.
The situation in Lyme World is very delicate right now.

This tilt in the wrong direction can happen even with the most well meaning of people.

I think we need to think about this, it sounds like a good idea at first glance, but he may go off in the wrong direction with this story..and we simply can't afford that to happen right now.

I tend to think we would need to look to the LDA for advise on such a big move. Something like this would DEFINATELY need to be micro-managed by someone with in depth knowledge, and our best interests in mind!!!!!!

Mo and others,

I agree with you. The last thing I want is doing harm to the Lyme cause.

I'll drop the subject.

It is a good feeling, though, having enough brain again to HAVE ideas, even when they are not the best ones. I'll have some more abx and see if I can come up with something better

Gabrelle it was a very good idea. We will just keep looking for a spokes person who is not so controversial(spelling again sorry)

Im personally very thankfull for people Like yourself who still have enough energy and get up and go to do stuff while battling this illness. Definately dont want to stiffle that determination.
Keep up the good work.

LOL gee what abx are you on i want some of that so i can get ideas LOL.

Gabrielle,

I just came back from trying to make my brain work when it was too low on resources.

I was frustrated because I missed out on an opportunity due to the fact I didn't have the ability to read the forms and figure things out in part.

I then read your post about it being nice to at least have ideas again.

It made me laugh and look on the positive side of things.

At least I was able to figure out what the problem was and that I needed to ask for help next time something like this comes around.

I too remember noticing that my brain was beginning to work again. It is nice to get those windows of the mind every now and then. I sure hope we have more of them!

I propose that we e-mail him the links on http://www.actionlyme.com . Comprehensive, exhaustinvely detailed proof of patently obvious fraud in lyme has been filed with the U.S.D.O.J., and the problem with the IgG standard had been filed with the FDA; the latter was instrumental in getting a vaccine off the market.

You can read the testimony and reports at the sites for the FDA, and the U.S.D.O.J., as well as at http://www.actionlyme.com

I hope he runs with this hmo-puppy, and lyme is included! This will be great for us!

He'd have a field day with this one, as the definitive work on fraud has been done for him. If they sue him they'll lose based on the evidence alone w/rt lyme disease.

I say go for this one big time!

The death-knell on lyme fraud will be hammered-in!

I just hope he doesn't get stupidly simplistic.

Time to kick some A** big time!

We have to get his phone number and vaporize the phone lines with encouragement to include lyme disease! I'm not gonna miss this one! No way in Hades!

Gabrielle, You had a great idea. I do not in any way want to stifle your thoughts and dreams...I just am afraid of what Michael Moore might do to the story.

Never let anyone, including moi, make your dreams seem wrong..I am just a lyme mom that always worries and has some caution built in..

If it worked out, it could be the best thing ever, and would have been your idea!!!!..I just worry about him. Maybe there is some good Hollywood director out there that is on this site. Wouldn't that be a Godsend??

Best of luck with your dreams and do not give up...Lymemomtooo

That's great news. I was just saying when his last movie came out, that this is the guy who needs to do a movie on the health care system, especially in regards to lyme.

Being what I know of him, I would say "yes" he will probably mention lyme, cause he likes controversy and he'd get it there.

I have to see this one. I only say the columbine movie and have yet to see new one, am waiting for video to come out.

I don't think we can afford to have Lyme become a Partisan issue.

(and this is coming from a way lefty.. )

But more out of concern for the very fragile and intricate problems at the core of LD specifically, I think any slant, or any untold part of the story, or any party line being drawn because Moore has so many politically based critics, could
be of huge detriment to our cause.

We need someone to tell the straight truth on this story, it's too big, too detailed, and would effect too many people, and childrens lives.

I think something on HMO,s and insurance denials and how that effects MANY illnesses (Cancer, AIDS, and more) would be great, and I think he would be great at exposing something along those broader lines.

My opinion as a Lyme activist.

i don't want a man like this on our side. he is deeply partisan and is great at selectively quoting and clipping media to accent his point of view. he could just as easily mold something to fit for or against his point of view. I have seen both of his movies, and I will admit he is very funny and has a lot of balls for example he sent an invite to bush for fahrentheit 9-11 and if u saw fahrenheit 9-11 he went to capitol hill asking congressmen if they wanted their kids in the military and handed out pamphlets. went on charlton heston's estate posing as an NRA member and asked him all sorts of question about why he did this or that.

here is the letter he sent to bush

quote:
Dear Mr. Bush:

I read that you have begun your summer vacation in Crawford. Summer vacation is a great time to see a movie - that's why so many blockbusters are released at this time of year. Unfortunately, my new movie, "Fahrenheit 9/11," has not been shown in Crawford (and didn't open 'til this weekend in Waco).

I write to invite you to the inaugural showing of "Fahrenheit 9/11" in Crawford at the Crawford Peace House, Wednesday, July 28 at dusk. I am very much looking forward to this Crawford premiere because, after all, so much of the film is set there in the months leading up to 9/11. Our Crawford premier will give us a chance to serve up some chips, salsa and a whole lot of truth - along with a film that I believe is all hat and all cattle, all sizzle and all steak.

If you graciously accept my invitation, I will also have the chance to thank you personally for being one of my Axis of Actors who star in the film (along with your Vice President and your Attorney General). And let's face it -- you've got the funniest lines in the film! We may even have an audience reading of "My Pet Goat" to celebrate "Fahrenheit 9/11" breaking through the $100 million mark at the box office.

Thank you for considering this invitation, and enjoy your vacation, for however long it may last.

Sincerely,
Michael Moore

for the most part, his documentaries are loaded with half truths and even outright lies. on a few occasions, I have heard him mention that his movies were for "entertainment" only. i do recommend these movies, becuz they give a different perspective although it is heavily biased and partisan. but a man like him would not be good for the lyme cause although he has way bigger fish to fry, I wouldn't want him mentioning lyme as an example in his documentaries. it would be good I guess for people to hear about it, but a biased opinion would not be a good idea and would chase away people that associate michael moore with lying and deceit.

haha but yeah don't get me started on him... I am not a big fan, and I think he is a big douche along with other political extremists.

Depends very much on HOW it is mentioned. The situation is very fragile right now.

Best left to those who are advocating with very broad knowledge of what is going on on all the medical amd political fronts.

We have lots at stake..

This may seem to be a silly suggestion, but what about trying to get someone like Oprah to do a show on Lyme. She so often is the champion of the underdog and has a very large audience.

I just came back from an appt. at a large university medical center and the doc(duck) kept quoting Dr. Steere and telling us that a positive IgM Western Blot didn't necessarily mean anything. I wanted to scream. Somehow we need to get more positive and accurate publicity. We are also "under review" with our insurance company-guess that means they're ready to pull the plug after 7 months of treatment.

Oprah has a spot on her web site where she takes suggestions for future shows. I am planning on sending her my suggestions as soon as a get a little more info put together.
