Well folks, thanks for all help and prayers..She is back for a half day to maybe finish senior year.. After a frantic early am phone call , she made it..She only goes am.If she is able to pull it off, then they will permit her to take some electives..She is only carrying required classes.

We got a lot of accomodations..She goes to the nurse for homeroom, she has an escort thru the halls between classes so no one messes with her or her picc line.(Think the school is doing this to cover their rear), I only asked that she be allowed to leave each class a minute early.

She is to have a set of books for home. Her home health nurse can go to school to change her bandage.

She already had an IEP that allowed her extra time for assignments if necessary. She has a non-verbal learning disability probably due to Lyme and already had some accomodations built in..I presented 2 pages of needs, etc..Most were approved but we will have an IEP to finalize it.

Last year when she was on home bound instruction a teacher came once a week..She did not do any teaching unfortunately and just served as a courier with work to and from. I can blame the patient more so than the teacher however..She would never tell the teacher that she needed any help.

WE still have this teacher helping one day a week to try to finish up un-completed junior work in English, History and Chemistry..Pray for the chem to be over...and to find a kind English tutor. Shs just can't get the implied meanings, etc..

Thanks for the help...

May I ask which school district? Ours didn't do very well with my son last year and I am gathering info to share with the school about accomadating these kids.

This is incredibly brave of both of you. I know your heart must be in your throat during these first days back! It was hard enough for me to go back to work with a PICC line; I can only imagine doing that in high school. I hope she finds some terrific kids who can be silly and sweet with her, and help make the whole thing more manageable. Three cheers and best wishes to the two of you.
